Filament and Filigree without magelight

Post » Sat Sep 28, 2013 7:54 am

So get this - my PC finished Kohlbjorn Barrow (at last, that one takes a while) and can try using the Black Book 'Flimanet and Filigree'. Of course, to make your way to the actual book in Apocryhpa, you...

Spoiler
...need a light source. The dark areas of the path to the actual book cause health damage. No big deal, right? Turns out it is kind of a problem - my PC doesn't do magic (so no magelight, candlelight) which means she'll have to use a torch. However, she only uses a two-handed melee weapon, sooooooo....

Kinda stuck between a rock and a hard place - I guess I can skip it or just try to stay in the safe parts. Gonna be tough - you folks have any outside-the-box thinking, suggested solutions are welcome.

Thanks

i was able to use the moving lamp which gives you, your moving light-source to stay outve the shadows...Its not always 'right' at the star with you, but if you look to your right, it will become visible to you. iT follows along the ledge, the length of the path, up to the staircase where you will run into another source, and a... I forgot what its called.. The big melee fella, not a seeker... I JUST did this with my 2H Barbarian, and used no magic... There were split second moments where i touched the shade, but this was of my own fault.. Wait at the start for a moment, and a light-source should become available to you..Even as it passes behind the columns of books (the wall, looks like bookshelves) the light will meet up with itself, giving you an available path in the light.. Good Luck

You can change the graphic settings to be brighter if you need to navigate a dark place. Not really necessary to use either light source, but if you really had to anyways without adjusting anything, why wouldn't you be able to just temporarily use a one handed weapon in one hand and a torch in the other?

Also I know nothing of this, I assume this is part of a plugin. I only play "vanilla".

This is from the Dragonborn DLC. It's a really good one from Bethesda, give it a try when you have a chance.

Can't switch to one-handed, against the rules of the build! If she does end up using a torch, she'll have to punch her way through which isn't practical.

Maybe I will get all the plugins eventually, but I hear each has some flaws. Such as vampire attacks in the Dawnguard plugin. The dragon attacks in "Vanilla" are annoying enough.

I see, well why not? Don't fight and just run like crazy.

Neither Hearthfire nor Dragonborn interfere with the vanilla game. I don't know what Dawnguard does, I don't have it. I suspect that, like the other plugins, you can kind of ignore it and not have issues. I know Hearthfire doesn't do anything active to the vanilla game unless you decide to buy land and build a house. It does add some alchemical ingredients and some foods for cooking. Once you buy land, the new options come into play.

Dragonborn doesn't do anything to the vanilla game unless you visit the Graybeards and they confirm that you're the dragonborn or unless you go to Windhelm and take a ship to Solstheim. You don't have to do either in which case the Dragonborn stuff is there, just not being used/involved.

Maybe someone else can speak to Dawnguard.

As for running through path to the F&F book, I don't know if it'll work, but I'll definitely give it a try. That would be funny, this orc barbarian with a torch just sprinting past all these lurkers and seekers. There's some really good loot that I'd have to skip...

There is no way you would be ignoring Dawnguard once its vampire attacks started. You are fighting a war, so ignoring it would end up with a lot of NPC's in the towns you visit dying. Your options are to immediately do the main quest for Dawnguard, and complete it to stop the town attacks, stay away from towns completely, or be prepared to fight to defend any town you visit, as well as the extra encounters you get traveling around in the wilds. You might not get many town attacks, but you always have to be ready and check nothing unwanted turned up, which can get annoying. You would get a warning before the first attack. You can also approach the preservation of your NPC's different ways.

Do you always get a warning of an attack?

no warnings and it happens only at nights so if you are that concerned for NPC's just stay inside during the night or stay away from towns during the night. To be Quite honest i haven't found the vampire attacks to be that serious issue like people have been complaining or because of it saying they wont buy dawnguard.

You do get warnings. The guards give you hint like "We need to do something about these vampire attacks"

The guard can say something like that before you enter a city or when you're already inside.

It'll be the first piece if dialogue a guard gives you if there's a vampire attack. It always mentions vampires.
