I don't think that its an april fools day joke. If they are getting shutdown for legal reasons, then it could take a long while before they get shutdown.
That all depends on how it's done. Under DMCA regulations, they would have to immediately remove the content. I think (not up-to-date on my copyright laws here) the FBI or any other government agency could suspend their service (possibly Arrrr!-style steal their servers) during an investigation. That makes sense, because otherwise the illegal stuff will keep spreading.
Another possibility is that they are making a new site and uploading everything to that site. I have no idea if thats what their doing, but it is a possibility to consider.
If they had the plans to make a new site, they probably would have announced it. Even if not, they certainly would back everything up and try to switch as seamlessly as possible. Mirroring the server's data (just the files) would take a day, tops, and they would be able to shut down the current system while they launched the new one.
Whatever the reason, they're still around. Somebody kick them in the [censored] and tell them to get out already!
