Files deleted on memory stick. Can I get them back?

Post » Sat Mar 12, 2011 9:17 pm

There was some files on a memory stick. I was told to delete them. Now I think the person who told me to delete them, needs those files. I am surprised the files didn't go to the Recycle Bin.
Is there a way I can get these files back?

Memory stick works in the same way as normal harddisk, it has a recycle bin, but hidden. Softwares that recover deleted stuff from harddisk works for memory disks as well.

I don't know anything about this. So do I download this program? Where can I get it? What should I get?

You can try this:
http://www.piriform.com/recuva

You can easily find other softwares that do the same and give the same results, note that these softwares are not 100% foolproof, the older the file the more likely it get corrupted from the constant overwriting. It is also possible it can't find the file you want.

Have you unplugged the drive at all?

If so then you're out of luck, flash memory doesn't store data in the same way as hard disks.

They don't, windows will usually try to create a recycle bin on most new drives that it detects, but afaik that only applies to NTFS formatted HDDs.

Thanks for your help guys. I am thinking the she may have saved it to another flash disk. I see different files, not the one she is looking for.

Thank you for your help. I will see if I can find the other flash drive.
