Filthy Lucre

Everytime I see a LP of Skyrim, I go a little nuts because no one ever takes everything that's not nailed down, nor do they take all the gear off of dead enemies. I always take everything an enemy has from the skeevers on the road to Lord Harkon himself (four years and I have yet to get to Dragonborn, but you can bet your ass Miraak will be naked a moment after he's dead).

Also, another thing I do is hoard (and display) unique weapons and shields and hoard all ingots, gems, dragon "parts", dwemer ANYTHING and all jewelry that isn't enchanted. Been doing this since day one and I wind up with a VERY nice treasure hoard that is either in chests in my armory or, if I'm feeling lazy, dropped in a giant pile somewhere in my house.

So anyway, I want to know what you all do with your treasure and loot and, if you have a sprawl worthy of a dovah, post it. I'd show you mine, but I'm on a 360 :(

If you're not selling it and amassing several million "drakes" to carry in your little belt pouch (yes, they all fit, somehow), then you're merely playing "pack rat". I see no purpose in hoarding more than one of any weapon or set of armor, even if you have mods for display mannequins. After all, what's the point in having 16 Daedric Warhammers piled up in the corner?

...although in one MW game a rather quirky character of mine took a liking to those massive 6th House Bell Hammers, and proceeded to collect them.

Yeah... Early on, when my characters are hurting for cash, i tend to load up on things... If i don't decide to make a living in a more honest capacity (cutting lumber, herbalism, straight up agriculture) but it's not long before i become far more picky about the junk i haul back.

The closest thing i've ever played to a Packrat was a Skyrim Character who took it upon himself to destroy every Daedric item he could find. I'd haul them to the Aetherium Forge and throw them in the Lava.

I have one rule when it comes to roleplaying: "Take only those actions that are appropriate to the character you are playing." This is what roleplaying means to me. So if it is appropriate for the character to hoard, they hoard; if it is not appropriate for the character to hoard, they do not hoard. Doing anything other than this is not roleplaying, in my book.

But some of my characters have been collectors. One collected books. Another collected skulls (she was an assassin and I roleplayed that these were the skull of her hits). Another collected certain flowers because she liked the fragrance and used them to decorate her house. A warrior character always used to take the weapon off her fallen foes and display them in her house (special racks had to be modded in after awhile to accommodate the large number of weapons). Another had ambitions to open a used clothing store in Windhelm and so collected all the clothing she could find so that she could sell it someday.

As Pseron points out, deciding what is appropriate for the character is the main point. More accurately, if you don't already know what the character would do under the circumstances, you're either not role-playing the character or else playing an indecisive character. For most characters, hoarding "everything" is unrealistic, although most characters will tend to take an interest in something (whether they actually keep it or not may be debatable), and a rare few will collect practically everything. Selling most of it for cash would be the obvious choice for most characters. Of course, playing one of the exceptions can be amusing.

If I'm playing a "crafting character", I use a smithing mod that allows me to break down many weapons and armor for their appropriate ore. I sell a lot of "heavy items" at Imperial/Stormcloak camps, which means staying neutral in the Civil War. Enchanted Items get disenchanted or sold. Staffs go in a chest or on display, sometimes sold. Unique weapons and armors get shown off, if not an upgrade for my character.

I also go nuts when players "leave things" in their gameplays. I played Dungeon Siege with a good friend and he rarely looted anything. So I's run behind him picking up all the stiff :)

I'm literally the opposite. I've turned lets plays off in disgust when their big burly Nord Stoamcloak happily puts on the female imperial armour in Helgen keep.
