Fin gleam?

Post » Sun Jan 09, 2011 9:39 pm

How in gods name his anyone supposed to find this legitimately is there like some secrect mission or something.I would have never found it if it wasn't for the internet is there some kind of treasure map in game indicating on where the location of fin gleam is has any one ever found this by just dumb luck it's just so random is there anything in the game that tells you about fin gleam. and if this is how Bethesda does random treasure then I'm going to be searching the beaches of Skyrim just to make sure.

Normally I would answer, but I'm not quite sure I can make out what you are saying so I may ask for you to please use some grammar. Sentences at least please. I know it may sound rude but I really can't read that and understand it.

The basic gist of the OP's squawking is "Are hand-placed but seemingly randomly-located items like Fin Gleam, with no in-game directions or maps to them, normal?"

The answer to which is, Yes.

Morrowind's BanHammer, Bloodmoon's http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Bloodmoon:Frostgore#Frostgore and http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Bloodmoon:Haakon%27s_Lucky_Break#Haakon.27s_Lucky_Break, and there are quite a few others.

Ah thank-you for the explantation there. I just find it annoying and confusing when people do that so its not aimed hurtfully at the OP.

You know, I've never found Morrowind's Banhammer, found the other two though.

I would like to know however, how people first became aware of such an item. I highly doubt Bethesda just shouted out to the world, so some very bored and strange person must of either looked through the Item list in the Construction Set OR, and more sad and impressive, explored the underwater reaches along the coast.

Any speculation?

I found it my complete chance while I was doing KoTN on my Mage. Although I had first heard about it from going through the construction set with a friend of mine. Looking for it however I never planned on doing. I'm more interested in finding the last 3 Nirnroots that I have left to find.

I remember one person starting a thread here quite some time ago in which he said that he was out swimming and found this helmet and wondered if anyone else knew it was there. That's the only instance I've seen of someone who found it without even knowing it was there beforehand, and Sabarel's then is only the second I've heard of someone just finding it, rather than looking for it.

Even when I knew basically where it was, it still took me a while to find it the first time.

On the other hand though, I think almost everyone finds the drowned troll inadvertently. It's not hard to miss though.

And yes, to the OP, things like that are in every TES game, or at least have been. Oblivion actually got some heat because there weren't as many of them as there were in past games.

(and personally, I never found either of the Bloodmoon items mentioned, though I did find the Banhammer, and on my first playthrough, and inadvertently)

I found it quite by accident. The discovery prompted me to spend quite some time in futile underwater searches for other goodies that I never found. It also resulted in an internal conflict in every subsequent game I played as I tried to rationalize a reason for my new character to go out there and 'find' it too, only to feel like I was cheating when I did give in to that temptation.

I knew of such rumors in morrowind but never found anything hidden yet in oblivion... New hope of a 2nd quest for me :celebration: but to be honest never have I found any secret locations in the elder scroll games....... I take this oath I will never stop playing till I find atleast one hidden treasure.... Wait one second I have found one secret treasure in this game... The treasure you ask is the treasure of replay ability... Although be it ever frustrating trying to build the one character that I will forever play as but that will happen one day for me... But being serious I will try to find the hidden treasure in Oblivion.....

I've never found it. I was going through the UESP looking for easter eggs one day and found the troll entry. So I went looking for it, but no troll! I've looked further up the river, too, but I still can't find it.

I'd say someone decided to go for a quick dip and happened across the helmet.

Or someone was modding and looking through the Glass Armour and found DarkFInGleam they wondered what it was and found out its base info etc.

My friend found it on the internet, and when he came over to my house to play, he was just doing something seemingly random. It was worth it in the end though, as he got it for me. :P

Yeah, I'm sure it spreads when one dev tells a friend, then that friend tells his friends, one of which happens to write a FAQ on Oblivion and includes it. It just starts snowballing from there.

I've never bothered to find it, and I never wear glass armour because I don't like looking like a hard boiled sweet.

Heh, it really is a goofy looking thing. Since looks matter, none of my characters have ever worn it - certainly not my current and overly fashion-conscious little elf.

I had one "crazy" character who wore Fin Gleam, a pair of iron boots, the wrist irons, and nothing else. It was fun for about an hour running around being absolutely silly, but then it got boring, because none of the NPCs noticed at all.
