"Final" Final Fantasy for Sony

Well looks like the end of Final Fantasy for Playstation as Sony is giving Das Boot to SquareEnix. I have to admit Square has kinda lost it on how to make RPGS. We went from open world exploring to walking down narrow hallways and this is why FFX and XII are considered the true last Final Fantasy games cause after those---like I said narrow hallways. So what your guys thoughts?

Square Enix is living in a fantasy world, time to wake up I say.

TBH, I've only liked two final fantasy games so this doesn't bother me in the least...

Final Fantasy 1 was supposed to be the last game for Square (hence the name) so not too bad I guess.

I have only played about four or five of them, but I really liked number 9. I like Ivalice, and the character system was great. Very easy to emulate for free if you are so inclined.

square enix was the true death of ff. I dunno if they fired writers or character creators or what but 10 was the worst game in the ff series. everything changed. but the writing was on the wall for ten to be horrible. i forget what the title of the game was, but square enix decided to try a prototype rpg that was awful; all i remember is it had a duck as a character who i think was a lancer or something. the skills setup system went to hell compared to 7 or 8, but a skill tree is popular so it's accepted. ff tactics was so much simpler and the story was great, if one could comprehend it, i finally got it on a third play through :)

I loved 10 and found it to be the best entry in the series. However I will say square enix is... .I don't know. Being managed by a bunch of morons or something.

^why, is talking, graphics, and a skill tree worth constant character rotation, no world map, and your main character being a tragic hero? plus.......no odin = fail.

This means absolutely nothing for Final Fantasy on Playstation. It's not like they had the majority of stocks or anything, far from it.

Sony just bought some Square stock after the company was in some serious trouble after the massive The Spirits Within disaster and kept it until now. Multiple Final Fantasy games were exclusively released for Playstation before Sony bought the stock, and the games will continue to be released for Playstation after they get rid of the stock. And nowdays Sony need the cash they can get hold on, so no surprise there.

Uh yes it can be worth it if the game and narrative is designed to support it. Ridiculous suggesting all FF games should conform to one standard. If anything they should mix it up and make a new style of FF. I don't get why they think they "need" to be so long with so much cutscenes. Plenty of ways to design a game. Try something new.

If SE is serious about changing their game plans after the success of Bravely Default, they may or may not head in the right direction.

i did, i dont like it. it should have been seen with the prototype, which did not sell well. you want innovation fine, take the risk and feel consequences for better or worse. you want consistency you give consistency. that's business. a cash cow is known that for a reason, you innovate that and you have problems, especially from people like me who grew up with ff from 7 onward(including 1 and 2 released on a later date within the states). why fix something that isnt broke and dont say creativity. that even has limits.

It's not the end of anything meaningful. Sony's just selling off their stake in the company. Square-Enix isn't going to suddenly stop producing titles for their machines; that's [censored] stupid, especially in today's climate.

And FFX is one of the last "true" FFs because XIII+ is nothing but narrow halls? Well, Spira might not have consisted of hallways, but it might as well have; just about every single dungeon in the game is one narrow path with few, if any, branches.

If you don't innovate your cash cow franchise, it grows stale, people get bored, and eventually move onto other things. Particularly when a competitor releases something better. There was once a time when Square was the go-to company for when you wanted to experience something that told you an epic character-driven story with a lot of pan, flash, and cinematic flair. That's no longer the case, though. Not necessarily because Square's been failing to deliver on that, but because everyone does that now.

You maybe thinking FFIX if you're going by world map free roaming exploration. FFX started the hallway/point+click map BS.

. . .Anyway, Sony is just being smart by selling their shares while the stocks still have value.
