Final Thoughts

Post » Thu Dec 31, 2009 12:21 am

With Brink 2 days away now, and me having calmed down a bit since my last spree of posting, this is my final say with this game.

Is Crysis 2 fun? The answer is yes.

What isn't fun is the amount of issues you may or may not (in which case the game must be a blast) run in to. With so many minor bugs, and a few major issues, the game can get frustrating at an incredibly rapid pace. Having completed most of the campaign (yeah I know it took me awhile, more interested in MP), I can easily say that the campaign was worth at least half of the money I paid for the game.

The MP still feels a bit lackluster, which leaves me with a bitter taste in my mouth. I'm not saying it's not fun, it is. I just feel like there could be so much more to it. As in a previous post, I feel like so little thought went into the MP. It feels rushed, and mostly like a poorly copied version of CoD, speaking mostly about the leveling system.

Things I love over all are the cloak. Yes, it dominates the game, but it's also what separates it from some of the other FPS games out currently. Of course, other games do have invisibility, but not at your disposal 100% of the time. Most of all, the mobility this game offers is what really draws me to it.

One of the hardest things I'm finding to really let go is the complete lack of communication from Crytek. This has been stated hundreds of times, but I don't think it can be repeated enough. It's really nerve racking and depressing... How would you expect us to want to keep playing and even recommend this game to friends when you don't even give us a glimmer of hope to stand on? No one really expected the game to be without issues. All we really wanted was confirmation that you, as a company, were aware of these issues and maybe at least a weekly update as to what you were working on. Leaving us in the dark leads me to question whether or not you're even working at all.

Feel free to leave your thoughts.

My final thoughts?

I'm more than a little bit concerned that this total lack of communication (and respect) could be more barren than people realise.

I have a feeling that Crytek may not be working on this game on the XBox at all.

Call me cynical, but this joke of a company who are refusing to even give us any update at all worries me. I think the reason they are silent, is because they don't want to say that they have packed it in.

My final thoughts:

I would have bailed if I hadn't joined a competition clan, so I can't let them down by selling the copy. On that note, I will be shelving C2 on Tuesday and only play it until the league dissolves do to lack of players (which will happen very soon).

I really like the game, but have to be half-hearted each time I play because I realize the current state of the game is not even for all players. C2 had a ton of potential, but didn't live up to the promise due to glitches and communication. It's a shame - but this is my fist and last Crytek purchase.

Have to say that the experience has made me a better consumer, as I will not get humped by another game company. I will be scanning the game forum for any hint of problems before purchasing another game, regardless of the reviews. Too many half-baked games hitting the shelves these days.

My final thoughts

I am believing that the Developers are working on the next project, and they have accepted that C2 have shipped over 2 million copies is enough for success. Why should they care now? We are the minority of players with the complaints. C2 is not design for longevity until the next installment based on Cryteks communication skills.

I still believe their company culture is part of the problem. Talking to Cry-Adam is like talking to a letter carrier. He is not a developer because he does not speak in that role, so why he even exist in the community. From what I have seen, he helped kill the community. Plus, the last developer of the game who visited the forum, had his feelings hurt, so he said why should they fix the game. I will give this game another month, and I will trade it in.

If they do an addition to the SP, I may keep it longer, but that is a wish that is not going to happen.

I just played a few games which confirmed to me that i'm doing the most sensible thing whilst I can still get my doe back. I was going to give it til the end of next week but I cant deal with it any longer. Its going back tomorrow. I can honestly say that i've never been more frustrarted in an FPS like this before. I would have rebooted ever time, I dont care for stats, but the amount of times i've rage quit is just sad. It shows how bad it is for me seeing as I don't care for stats. It gets me that mad. Im sick of emptying an entire clip in to someone for them to kill me with 1 or 2 hits, its like my armour is completely useless. Its not acceptable for games to be in the state Crysis is in these days. People will not give it a second thought and take it back. Remember only CoD gets away with things like that & this aint CoD. I **** HATE that game, why it gets so much attention is behond me.

The same thing happened with the last Flash Point & although the SP CooP campaign was amazing (C2 isnt, spoilt by more bugs & stupid AI) but because of how Code Masters left that game, pfft. it was a disgrace. (thinking about it Crytek sound an awful lot like CM) What happened? Everyone returned it & an handful of people bought Red River. I loved the CooP but I refuse to buy RR as did millions of others. What happened with RR. I guess people didnt learn their lesson the first time. CRYTEK, this will be you on you're next release if you don't at least respond to the community that invested time & money in you.

I think the reason I am frustrared is because I DO like the game & I want it to do well, but I find it to stressful to play & the complete lack of support is unacceptable. I wouldn't know if Crytek were not responding because theve moved on to other games, dont want to give false hope, there working on a patch or anything. Theres no info about the future of this game that I can find anywhere which scares me.

For the sake of youre true fans & loyal gamers I hope you make it worth their while in the long run. As for me, i'll continue to come back to the forum from time to time in hopes you've resolved most issues but until then Crysis 2 will be going back. Lets hope you learnt your lessons because if not you'll end up like CM. NO ONE buying into all the BS. You are doing the gamers a favour. They will get more cautious before spending $50+ for a Beta.

Damnit. Forums showed me posting a triple post, so I edit two and the third disappears. Kinda' like Crytek's fanbase.

Summary: When I play C2 I feel like the girl dumped at her Senior Prom. Paid a bunch for tickets and dress, spent hours on preparation, now, everyone around me is having the time of their lives and I've faced with two choices: leave or stay and agonize.

Crytek pulled the Bait and Switch selling me on their demo' and shipping me their turd of a game, brown and sticky as a stick. I've listed my copy on eBay and this will be the last time I purchase a game from Crytek. I'll be sure to advise me friends the same.

The only problem I have have is the style of gameplay that I didn't fully realise with the limited time with the demo. I don't like the run and gun gameplay and want gameplay that FEELS realistic. Matches are just a mess of bullets flying everywhere.

You wanted a game that feels realistic so you bought a game where everyone is running around in billion dollar rave costumes with the ability to go into predator mode and jump insanely high.... I don't get it. The Battlefield franchise is probably your best bet.

Also, this thread was more about just coaxing out more Crytek insults... Not really sure if anyone got that. As soon as something semi-positive is posted here, people come running to sh!t all over it.
