Finally got Daggerfall to work. Could use some advice.

Hello everyone.

I finally got Daggerfall to work. I'm having a lot of fun with it. I just ascended to the end of the first dungeon.

I used Boilerplate's(aka the DOS expert who used to be on youtube) suggestion on what character to create. For those who don't know, basically, he suggested Long Blade, Critical Strike, Dodge as my main skills. Restoration, Medical, and Thaumaturge as the minor skills, and all the remaining spell types and running and stealth as his misc skills. He also was all about speed and Agility, although Strength, Intelligence and Endurance are also pretty high. He also chose things such as critical weakness to poison and disease, and bonus to athleticism, 3x magery. and expertise in long blade. What's more, he suggested that you choose the answer to the question that starts you with a ebony dagger, which has been a lifesaver against the green flying imps.

Anyways, I have a few basic questions.

1. The most important question: The guy is unbelievably arrogant, but he really seems to know a LOT when it comes to DOS titles. How practical is the build really? Any suggestions on how I should change him? I'm still in the beginning of the game, so if I'm gonna start over, I'd want to do it right now.

2. I'm not really sure where to go now that I've exited the dungeon. The tutorial said to go to Daggerfall of Daggerfall if I understood it correctly, but I'm there, it took 8 days, and no new tutorial message has popped up. Maybe some suggestions on what quests to do at low level that can give me some nice loot.

3. Are there really only a total of SIX save slots? Is there some way to add more without moving folders around?

4. In terms of practical rewards for my character, which guilds should I join. Also, which guild can I not join if I join another? Plus, are there any quests I should do before joining another guild. Situations like this happen in Morrowind(Something related to a book and the Camonna Tong in Balmora.)

5. Are there any quests that I have from the time I start the game starts to a certain amount of time that I have to complete? Also, are most if not all non-main quests in this game repeatable?

6. How the heck do I cast myself some freaking spells? Seriously, for the life of me, I can't figure out how. I at least think I understand how to equip spells, but I can't figure out how to cast them. Please, be detailed with your answer if you can, and by all means, expand upon it. Also

7. For most stats, other than say...strength and Intelligence, are there any changes in stats other than in the multiples of 10? Also, is 100 still the max stat? What's more, about leveling up. What's the max amount of stat points you can have, and what's the best way to get that many stat points?

8. I know that I can only join one knightly Order, and one Temple. Which of each provides the most practical rewards? For example, in Morrowind if you join Telvanni, you end up learning a lot more spells, you end up getting a lot more enchanted items, and most importantly, you get a couple 50 point feather Daedric pieces of armor(cuirass and greaves if I remember correctly. I always keep the greaves the whole game too, even through the expansions!)

9. I understand that there are some evil factions in this game, or at least one(dark brotherhood I think it's called.) Are there quests within the guild that I should avoid unless I want to get a wanted status?

10. If I were to focus on 2 mouse style attacks with long blades, which would you suggest? Moving right to left, and left to right seems to work the easiest, but are there better ways?

Well, that's all I can think of asking off after putting a lot of thinking into things. That said, please, give me any other form of starting advice you can think of.

Thank you for your time.

1. I have no idea who Boilerplate is, so I have no comment on him. His build doesn't seem bad, but each person tend to have their own way of doing that. I can agree that putting running in misc is a good idea. With my assassin character, I'm still fairly low level and my misc running is already at 77. The bonus to athleticism is a bit unnecessary though.

2. After you exited the first dungeon, don't even think about the Main Quest. Find a nice town with some guilds and services. Join a guild and do a couple of quests for them. The beginning of the Main Quest will find you, no need to look for it.

3. Yep, only six saves. I know no way to expand it.

4. At the start, guild quests rewards are mostly money or jewels, so join whichever you prefer. Just note that the fighter's guild often give in-town quests (pest control) and the mage guild often give dungeon crawl quests (hunt specific ingredient or creature). Guild conflicts are not as clean cut as in Morrowind though. As far as I know, you won't be denied access to a guild because you joined another. Instead, if you do a job that goes against your guild, you will lower your reputation with them. (Which you can raise again by doing jobs for them.) The main limit for guilds, is that if you don't do a quest for them once in a while, they'll eventually start hating you and kick you out. So avoid joining too many guilds, because you have to take good care of your membership so to say.

5. Nope. You'll always be noticed once you get a quest with a time limit. Also, yes. They are pretty much all repeatable.

6. Quoting myself from the other day: "spellbook -> select spell -> press spacebar (activate button) -> ??? -> Profits. " I can't think of anything else that would be worth mentioning.

7. Speed gives his benefits with each point I think, increasing both your running and attack speed. Except with a special addon, the max stats should be 100.

8. In Daggerfall, it's slightly different. The temples/orders services are very similar. What is different is the rank at which you get said service. For that I recommend looking at online infos about the temples.

9. I think the Thief guild quests are the ones at risk. The Dark Brotherhood rarely leave witnesses alive anyway...

10. The left/right combo is pretty much my favorite. Pretty fast and effective. If you need some extra accuracy, the poke attack (forward thrust) is supposed to be pretty good.

Woo! That was a lot of questions. Have fun in the gigantic world of Daggerfall!

1 "How practical is the build really"?
I would not choose those, but to each his own. Of the Primary skills mentioned (all good), Dodge is the most difficult to raise. So you should be atrying to answer those questions in such a way that you maximise Dodge starting bonus and add all 6 pts at end of character creation to it. I am not kidding. Now I do not know why the two magic skills, I assume for some defence / practical ability (heal and teleport), but if I am wrong (why would you need 3x Magery if magic were not critical to you?), then Willpower becomess important for you to invest in. Spell effectiveness/ power, just like any Skill, takes into account how high the governing attribute is, and all magic skills are governed by Willpower. If you do not think magic is necessary, go for Stealth and Backstab. Combined with Critical strikes and long baldes greater damae this is a wooow.

2 guils, etc...
Join any Knight Order (they're all the same) so you pay nothing for tavern rooms; also Mages Guild (for item maker) and imo Order of Arkay is the best Temple for my interest at least. Why? Soulgem Merchant. Indeed. The best soul for enchanting is Dragonling (high power no disadvantages), and the Dragonlings that you find are NOT usually good for enchanting (the only ones that are good come from some Knight order that you have to quest for, VERY tedious). The soulgem merchant of Arkay , unlike the magic item merchant fo mages guild, resets its sotk of soulgems, everytime you leave and restart conversation with him. Another good reason for Arkay is they give you access to Potion Merchant (forget about potion making thats screwed). Some potions are excellent (Restore Power for Mages and True Heal for warriors). You also get acces to them pretty easilty, wait till you get quests that are something like "kill undead ,come back for reward".

Beware that "Templar Orders" are Temples, NOT Knight Orders. So if you chose " Knights of the Circle", whcih do the excat sme thing as Temple of Arkay, you cannot jjoin a Temple (you have to get kicked out of the order, which takes time and sux).

3 "amount of time that I have to complete"
Pay attention to one letter you will get at start: http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Daggerfall:Lady_Brisienna Read the Note at the bottom of the aite.

4 spell casting: c'mon... press c, it'll open your spellbook :)
