If you have the Game of the Year edition of Oblivion, or another recent version, it'll already be patched in the official sense. Otherwise, you will need one of the following two patches. The first is only applicable if you DON'T have Shivering Isles installed, by default or otherwise. The second is, if you DO. Use only ONE of them.
Non-SI : http://download.zenimax.com/elderscrolls/oblivion/patches/1.2/Oblivion_v1.2.0416English.exe
SI : http://download.zenimax.com/elderscrolls/oblivion/patches/1.2/ShiveringIsles_v1.2.0416English.exe
You will also most likely need the following:

http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=35230
http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=20516
http://obse.silverlock.org/
http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=32277
Then there's the Unofficial Oblivion Patch: http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=5296
Followed by, IF you have Shivering Isles, the Unofficial SI Patch: http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=10739
If you also have other official DLC (e.g., Knights of the Nine), or again, GotY edition or the like, there's the Unofficial Official Mods Patches too: http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=9969
Whichever of those you install (even if it's just the first one, in the case of not having SI or any other DLC installed), patch it/them further with the Supplemental stuff, here: http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=27710
There are a few performeance/annoyance fixers I think you'll appreciate, regardless, as well:
http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=22410 (needs OBSE, by the way)
http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=23208 - get the latest "RC" or "beta", whichever that is. (needs OBSE too)
http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=10400 - make sure to install the patch located there as well.
Check out Tomlong's site, as pointed to in a previous post, for more information as to setting up Streamline, among other things.
Oh, and unless you want the big, dumb, fugly console UI that PC Oblivion ships with, get yourself something like either http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=10763, or its darker sibling, http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=11280. Again, choose ONE. There are other alternatives too, but the DarN family is well known, well liked, and supported by many other mods, to boot.
Most of all, make sure you READ READMEs. No, really. The whole thing, of every one. This will save you, and others, many headaches and much wasted time indeed. Also, be sure to only install at most a few mods at one time, before checking the new setup to see if it all works OK. Best if it's just one at a time, but this comes down to patience, and it's your call, as it always is (for anyone).
