Finally met the Most Annoying Man

Post » Wed Dec 08, 2010 11:36 pm

After playing the game for ages I was looking on YouTube and saw all these videos about the Most Annoying Man. He certainly was pretty annoying, and most of the videos were of him getting smashed up with super sledgehammers and ripped apart by rippers when hios annoyingness gets too much to bear. But I wondered why I'd never met him. Did you find him at someplace I had never been? Was he some sort of Mod that you had to download? Eventually I worked out that I HAD met him, but had declined to help him at the time because I had something more important to do. This was before he had a chance to be particularly annoying so I didn't remember meeting him.
So I went back to see if he still needed my help and sure enough there was the living legend, still waiting to be escorted to Big Town. So off we go together, with him being annoying as per all the videos. However, my character was at like level 26 by now and the wasteland is a correspondingly dangerous place! Two hundred yards down the road from Little Lamplight and we run into an Albino Radscorpion and about a second later that's the end of Sticky, with me cowering behind a rock hoping it won't notice me next (My character isn't very tough and I was fresh out of bottlecap mines. Sorry, Sticky!).
I still felt a bit bad about it. I wore his party hat all the way back home as penance.

Hehe. Now I just have to escort him to Big Town and see how long I can stand his annoyance.

I recently escorted him to Big Town. We stopped over in Megaton so I could give him some power armor. I kept telling him that I was sick of him, and he could figure out his own way, then he would get pissed and stomp off, then after a couple of seconds, I would run after him and say ok ok, I'll take you. Until I forgot, because I got distracted by a Super Mutant Brute, and then I turned around just in time to see Sticky dying from centaur poo.

I sometimes take him to Big Town but by the time I reach little lamplight I got other things that I have to do that take precedence.

I make sure I've found Big Town before I go to Little Lamplight, so I fast travel the whiny little pud there with no problems.

Maybe next time for giggles I'll give him a kitchen knife and go the long way, since every time you give an unskilled follower a weapon they do dumb things like attack albino radscorpions and deathclaws singlehandedly. I'll just hang back and watch the fun. "Keep him busy, I'll....be along in a bit. My rifle's jammed, yeah, yeah, that's the ticket!"

Come on you guys, the less fortunate need our protection and in this game Sticky is about as unfortunate as anyone gets. No denying that fact that he is a putz.

Truth be told, all the Lamplighters and ex-Lamplighters are pretty hapless. Except for Machete.

The Lamplight kids might talk tough, but they really just run a lot. Once, I was trying to find Bryan a new home, so I talked to Macready, and Macready called him Little Orphan A**hole. I thought that wasn't nice, so I put away all my reapons and socked the rotten little twerp in the nose. He yelled "Every man for himself" and ran, even though he had a rifle and I wasn't armed.

Sticky, though... I think he might be some kind of mentally handicapped type. He most assuredly doesn't act like a 16-year-old. He's more like someone's excruciatingly annoying 8 or 9-year-old tagalong little brother.

heres something to prove that lamplighters cant do anything but attract shots like magnets.

Spoiler
it seems that the dead bodies in the butcher shop basemant in andale are ex-ex-little lampers.

anyway sticky.... cannon fodder. hes suppose to be the adoring fan of fallout. looks like bethesda got that one right. but the first time i lead him around a super mutant with a wooden post got him down. yea, the weakest super mutant in the game took sticky down. they should rethink him not being able to stay at little lamplight, he needs it.

Being able to cross the wasteland with Sticky and risk your life for him is the ultimate test of character in the game. I failed.

I got no problem with protecting him, but his behavior makes him nearly impossible to protect. We don't encounter any foe I can't effeiciently slaughter, but he all too often rushes into combat and gets killed. While I certainly support the right of every wastelander to bear arms, people like Sticky should leave the serious combat to the pros, and use their guns only for emergency self-defense.

I met sticky while doing the main quest. I ended up completely forgetting about him since I'd told him to wait inside lamplight while I did the quest I was on, next time I went into lamplight sticky's body was on the floor where I had left him waiting, whoops. :whistling:

Guess those Lamplight twerps are serious when that say that once you turn 16, you're out. Of course, I expect it was a more dignified death than being run down, dismembered, and devoured by muties. Which seems to be what happens in Big Town.

I count my blessings that I found Big Town before I went to Little Lamplight. Compulsive map-exploring to put off the main quest as long as possible has its benefits. :D

I seriously doubt that Macready allows any "mungo-type mushiness" between any of his Lamplighters. More likely Little Lamplight is populated by children who were either lost their parents or were abandoned by them, sort of like the Capital Wasteland's answer to an orphanage. We know that Lucy was born there, but I'd say she's probably the exception to the rule.

Another thuing to consider is that since the Lamplighters live on pondscum, they're probably malnourished, and therefore hit puberty much later than yopur typical kid of today. Thy might not be capable of reproducing at all.

Little Lamplight's original population was comprised of children who were visiting the place with some advlts when the bombs fell. The advlts eventually died and the children did their best to survive.

As to how they repopulate the caves, nobody knows and the game doesn't address this question.

Went through Little Lamplight today, picked up Sticky and fast travelled to Big Town. He didn't annoy me at all, except once we got inside and he jumped up and down for about 20 seconds which was pretty absurd. And then of course after clearing Germantown police station despite being oddly low on ammunition for my two key weapons, I stupidly chose the [Science] option to help protect Big Town and fell victim to the flying objects glitch or whatever it's called, and the robots didn't spawn. Even more stupidly, I neglected to save throughout the whole ordeal, so now I'm debating whether or not to replay that sequence or just let it rest and never go to Big Town again... Tough call.

And because of that, I am annoyed by Sticky. :brokencomputer:
