finally... something new

In that case, either way I don't think it would be very rude to say what he said. If the Medics were bots then they won't/can't care, and if they were co-workers I don't think they would be too peeved with a friendly jab like that. :foodndrink:

Anyway, I think we've just about picked this video clean wouldn't you say?

Either that, or the whole thing was rehearsed, and he said his line a bit over-enthusiastically. And I'm not really seeing anything new in the clip either.

I would say that it's very likely that the demo was rehearsed. What walkthrough isn't, particularly if it's a media demo? At least the narrator has to have the points he wants to communicate to the audience.

About the enthusiasm, however, that's the way Ham talks in obviously unrehearsed interviews as well.

Richard Ham is always enthusiastic. :celebration:

He gets 100 XP for simply changing to engineer class and then gets 150 XP for buffing his own damage...? <_<

No, he get's 100xp for changing to the class that can accomplish the main objective.

Although I have to agree with you on buffing his own gun. He shouldn't get any XP.

You also shouldn't get XP once you change to that class and change back and forth. So nobody sitting at a command post getting XP for switching back and forth between soldier and engineer racking up XP for switching to the needed class.

I that everyone should get the same amount of XP for handing out a buff.

There needs to be some re adjustments with the amount of XP per buff.

Is it just me, or was Richard Ham (Creative Director) really patronizing with the tone of his voice?

I noticed it the most when he said
"Jolly [media director], why don't you go become a medic, cuz medics just don't seem to be doing their jobs today"

happy?

No Heavy/Operative love especially the Heavy as I barely see him anywhere but otherwise great.
They could probably release this level as a standalone game by the amount of time spent on it:D

It's logical to make one map to test basic game mechanics. (Thinking about the HUD, bullet damage, smooth movement, SMART,...)
When they have one 'full' level, they can start to test things, instead of testing in simplified environments.
When all of this has been done and when there are more maps and more stuff finished they start to balance things.
It's a logical process in developing.

Well from what I could see he was only getting around 3xp when he shot things as a medic, so the hundred for reviving is kind of understandable, since unless the systems been reworked other videos show one of the other classes getting anywhere from 10 to 20. >.>

indeed, and it's getting pretty annoying people complain about it not being fair.
why do they always doubt SD will get it balanced?

There's been a lot added to the HUD for this video, I quite liked it as it was shown in previous ones. Not that minor aesthetics make any real difference or anything.

So, I wanted to anolyse the video for XP rewards, however it's a .mov file and that is a really b-itchy codec to work with. I gave up after this (which covers only the first minute and therefore soldier class):

EDIT - continued

SOLDIER
  • Ammo Sharing - 25XP (00:20), 61XP (00:52), 40XP (00:58), 58XP (01:06) (I guess it depends on how much ammo you hand out)
  • Damage Enemy - 3XP (00:26)
  • Kill Assist - 15XP (00:27, 00:37)
  • Kill - 20XP (00:30)
  • Plant Bomb - 25XP (00:49)
  • Bomb Destroyed - 275XP (01:28)

Objective Class - 100XP (01:50)

ENGINEER
  • Accompany Vehicle - 7XP per tick (02:07)
  • Damager (Buff Weapon) - 150XP (02:13 other), 150XP (02:20 self)
The part after he deploys the turret (~02:50-03:05) is not quite clear, so I am not sure what he gets points for

MEDIC
  • Syringe Master (hand out syringe) - 100XP (03:44)
  • Assist - 1XP (03:45) (Not sure what kind of Assist that is)
  • Health Booster - 112XP (03:46 other)
  • Reviver - 100XP (03:47) (That happens when the person uses the syringe)
  • Health Booster - 112XP (03:57 self) (I guess the medium body type gets 12 additional HP => XP; light would get less, heavy more)
  • Damage Enemy - 3XP (04:04)

Things I'm wondering about:
  • It seems the medic gets Assist-XP for people causing damage who received a health buff.
  • Is the XP value on damaging someone fixed or per HP?

i like the kill assist bonus,
in mw2 it's unbelievable, you get someone to the brink of death, someone else comes along and puts one bullet in him, and he gets 100xp where you only get 10xp...

Qureshi, the guy who gave the speed buff, is a medic.
you can see a cross next to his name if you look carefully ;)

and you can't be killed, only taken down, when you have the ability wich allows you to still fire i expect they can shoot you again so you lose your gun and are as all the other guys who were taken out.

not possible to stop someone from being revived (95% certain)

in the old E3 video you see him kill a downed guy with the shotgun, of course the game might have changed since then

downed guy, as in he was knocked down with a melee?
downed guy as in, he was down but still held a weapon?

first means he isn't really downed yet,
second means he was using an ability, and would have required another attack so he can't fire anymore

downed as in he got XP for a kill and the screen said "You defeated Blah" and you could see him writhing around on the ground, until he put another shell of buckshot into him.

He's incapacitated, which counts as a full kill, but it involves the risk that he gets revived.

not sure, but it loks a bit as if that guy was taking out a pistol, wich would mean it was the situation where he used an ability that requires another shot
