Finally the truth about Lucas Arts and BF3 comes out.

Reading the article in the new issue of Game Informer, It is a wonder that Lucas Arts didn't get shut down earlier. The problem was you have experienced game developers who know what they are doing, and who know what sells in the gaming world, but then you have their bosses which are movie guys who think because they know what sells in the theaters they know what will sell in games. So most of the time they would get half way through development and Lucas would come in and say "I don't like his name, change it", so then they have to go back through and redo everything that has his name in it. Then you have lucas coming up with just stupid Ideas for these guys, like they wanted to give Starkiller a Darth title, Lucas came up with Darth Icky and Darth Insanious. Those just sound so damn foolish. Apparently KOTOR III was about to go into development when Lucas Arts canceled it for seemingly no reason. They say it had everything ready from conceptual design to the story groundwork. With Battle Front III Free Radical was having trouble delivering on its promise to have seamless ground to space battles. Instead of being forthcoming with that information to Lucas Arts they decided to keep it to themselves and make Lucas Arts believe everything was going smoothly. I guess the leadership at LA was also quite strict, the guy would ask "what rating can we give this game in it's current state" to which someone would answer "81 or so" then the guy would make them come up with something that they didn't have the time or money for to add to the game to make it a 90. Just saying I am not surprised Disney shut down Lucas Arts at all...

George Lucas and Skywalker Ranch had a lot of pull with how things went within the Star Wars Universe. There were very strict rules and guidelines that had to be followed so that it fit into the world that Lucas had created. I think a large part of the problem was that George himself lost touch with the universe and stopped caring which is why we ended up with more garbage than quality products set in the Star Wars universe. I am very curious to see what Disney does with the franchise but I'm afraid we'll see more Jar Jar Binks and less dudes chopping off arms and heads with lightsabers. We will find out somewhat this May since the new cartoon is supposed to air on Disney XD.

Well Star Wars is out of Lucas's hands and is now Disney's child, although Disney games have been easy they're at least playable and enjoyable, so we'll see what Disney has in-store for Battlefront 3.

So, what you're telling me is that upper-management doesn't have a good handle on what's actually happening in the real world and they're dictating bad decisions to their underlings that do? Preposterous! That never happens!

Or not enough.

This isn't restricted to Lucas Arts. It happens everywhere, which is why I chuckle when people blame Todd for TES when it's really Zenimax calling the shots.

Oh, and the worst part about it all: there's nothing programmers and designers can do, because they know they can be replaced easily. There's a huge list of people banging on the door to become game makers, falsely believing this is a world of riches, fame, and honor.

In the 90s, several people left studios to form their own for the sole intention of being bought out by the bigger fish. It was unscrupulous how both sides played each other, all forming the big fish we have now, with EA being the largest.

Most of these acquisitions weren't even game related, just about closing down competition in order to control the costs of development. Just look at the folks at Maxis when EA published their game with their rules. Several developers at Maxis made it clear the decision to screw gamers over wasn't theirs and did everything they could to distant themselves, until EA came in and threatened their jobs if they continued with the press.

I will never, ever work in this industry again. It's corrupt, and the losers are everyone that doesn't have an office in a publisher's building.
