Finals week is almost over - catch me up to speed

Post » Wed Dec 14, 2011 9:01 pm

So, I've been absent from Skyrim, and these forums for about a week and a half. I did hear a little bit about a broken patch from a friend, but he likes to over-exaggerate things. I searched the forums, and there were a lot of topics about the patch being "broken" but the couple that I opened up, didn't go into specifics - they were more "rant" threads than anything.

I'm on the xbox version - I declined the update (I know better than to just blindly update without doing my homework).

What does the update do that's so horrible? Am I better off just using the version that was available day 1 (there was an update on day 1 correct? So I'm on version 1.1 I assume?)

Just looking for some answers.

From what I understand some people are having issues with it breaking their various magic/elemental resistances across the board, both for them and NPCs. Various other issues abound. I've heard about some people having their save games bloat to the point where the game is incredibly laggy, but I don't think the issue is specifically related to patch 1.2.

Also, lucky. I have finals next week. Blegh.

Grad school - no "finals" just projects to finish and papers to write. I'm so glad that my test taking days are behind me - there's a lot less anxiety writing a paper than there is taking an exam.

I've seen what appeared to be "lag" during a couple treks from city to city - is that similar to the complaint you mentioned, or would it be much worse than that?

I'm more than willing to just use the 1.1(?) version for now, and be signed off every time I play - but I know that eventually, I'm going to mistakenly accept the update, and I just don't want to be screwed into a bad patch.

I think the save bloat issue is mainly on the PS3 version and doesn't happen until you have 120+ hours of gameplay in. I play on the PC though so I'm not entirely sure. You might want to check over at the 360 technical issue subforum to see what people are complaining about specifically.
