Find The Music Mod

Post » Mon Sep 20, 2010 8:44 pm

I have used the "GNR - More where that came from" mod for a long time now. In fact, it was the first mod I ever downloaded, and I simply couldn't live without it now! So much so that when New Vegas comes out I want to be able to expand the song selection for it just as GNR-MWTCF did FO3. However, I would like to offer a twist to users who wish to have a little optional quest included (should anyone decide to try it out that is!).

Basically, I would like to have 100 (or more) "records" (probably holotapes for now) all around the game world that the player can find and take them back to 3 Dog or most likely a new NPC "assistant" to 3 Dog I could add. Each record will add a new song to the song list that is played over GNR. 3 Dog's dialog on air would not change. (Something tells me it might be easier to add a new NPC for this purpose that to try and edit 3 Dog's dialog and scripts but what do I know, lol)

Mostly though, this would be good practice for me working this out with FO3, so that when New Vegas comes out I could hopefully fairly easily just convert what I have learned over for FNV and whatever system they give us.

So, because I'm such a green modder I would definitely need a lot of help learning how to set this up. I have a feeling this would require a LOT of scripting which I am pretty clueless with after the most basic of stuff, lol. I can easily do a LOT of the basic work myself though.

One other thing I know this would need to really be great would be a model and texture of an actual 45 or 78 rpm record placed in the game. I know I have never made a model or texture so I could use someone's help with that as well. But that is not entirely necessary as I can use a holotape for that purpose. Maybe someone will offer to do that down the road.

SUMMARY - I think I can make most of the pieces of the puzzle, but need help putting it together:

I can create a new NPC and put them wherever I want to, but the most logical place would be GNR Studios I think, right? I can also put the holotapes wherever I want to in the game with no problem. As for the NPC, I would likely just give them a sandbox package to just hang out until the player brings them some records. That part is pretty basic, so here's where I need help. What scripts do I need and where do I need to attach or place them so that NPC takes the record from the player and add's the song into the songlist?

Thanks for the help! (I know I'll need more, lol!)

thanks for the reply zaq, but that really didn't apply to what I want to do. I'm not looking to add a new radio station, but to add songs to GNR as the player finds them and takes them to 3 Dogs assistant.

Still looking for a little advice for this, anybody?
