Aazim Nasir - Haven
Aazim sat kneeling in the cool interior of the makeshift musalla that sat in the center of Haven. The noise of the village outside seemed to dissipate as one entered the small abode, what little light there was came from small slits that rounded the domed ceiling. Aazim exhaled slowly and turned his head to the right
"Assalamo Alaikum Wa Rehmatullah" , he then turned his head to the left and repeated; then after bowing his head he rose and moved towards the door. Aazim stopped short of the door and began to remove his clothing, changing into the outfit than hung from several crude hooks on the wall. It was a pair of baggy sirwals, boots and red jacket, Aazim stepped out of the musalla on to the muddy central square of the village. It was a small market, primarily with farmer and shepherd selling foodstuffs along with a few artisan selling their crafts. Aazim's favorite stall in the market was run by a large family that had a small apple orchard on the outskirts of Haven; they sold both fresh apples & apple products at the market almost each day. Aazim followed his nose to the stall and smiled as he caught the eye of Julia and Marc, they were twins and the middle children of the family; both of them had curly black hair and both wore their's long and down.
"As-salamu alaykum" Aazo," Aazim said
"Wa alaykum s-salam" responded Julia and Marc, Aazim smiled and nodded
"Very good children, how are you today?" Aazim asked as he leaned against the market stall. Julia turned and left while Marc spoke.
"We're doing okay Mr. Aazim, thoguh last night when we were putting out hte fire Manny got his hands burnt up real bad, so no moms is taking care of him."
"How badly was he burned?"
"I don't know, didn't look too bad though, it was just really red with bumps all over it and every time my moms touched one, this yellow stuff started coming out." Aazim grimaced at Marc's words
"Though it won't do much at this stage, I have an aloe plant which is very effective at treating burns. I will bring it by later tonight" Julia then returned with a small basket and bottle.
"Here ya go Mr. Aazim, apple pie and cider, both fresh." Aazim thanked Julia and opened the basket, he peaked inside and took a deep breath of the pie; it smelled heavenly.
"Tell your parents I give them my thanks, I love your mother's cooking and the cider, well you both know how i feel about your cider" Aazim said with a smirk
"No problem, when will our next lesson be?" Asked Marc
"Tomorrow at the Mussalla after morning Salah, bring something to eat as we will be heading outside of town." This peaked both of the children's interest "We will be scouting for a place in order to construct a permanent Mosque, though the mussalla has served us well we need a permanent place to worship." The children were excited as it was the rare that they left Haven, much less for something other than hauling cider out to Tankard. Aazim thanked them again for the food and drink and then headed towards his home next to the mussalla. Like the mussalla and most of the buildings in Haven it was constructed from mud and wood, small and squat and it sported a rough dome-shaped roof painted red. The interior was dark and cool like cave, but hanging cloth and decorations covered the drab physical features. A large bed that was only just slightly off the ground was pushed up against the rear wall, next to it and sprawled out over most of the interior were cheap, thick rugs and tanned skins. There was a small wooden table with several chairs around it, and a wash basin near the door. Only two windows were in the small hut and even then they were vertical slits with glass bottles shoved through in order to color the light. The resulting red-orange light cast a peaceful glow over the room.
