Finish Him! Or not...

All right, some of you may excoriate me for a) being a degenerate brute who achieves self-gratification with gratuitous violence or B) a troublemaker with a lust for stirring controversy, but that would be unjust; I'm just an average gaming joe who wants your opinion on the issue of whether or not Brink should be more violent than it is already.
Points up for consideration would be whether or not the game should have 'executions' that can be weapon or even class-specific that can be administered on downed or upright players (which could have the advantage of conserving ammo), more violent damage physics such as dismemberment and gibbing, or Domination and Revenge mechanics to give an incentive to kill (all of which are present in Team Fortress 2, which, yes, I am a GREAT fan of).
Oh, and I'd like your opinion on this as well; if executions are actually allowed, what would be your preferred method in dispatching your crippled foe?

I'll just shoot him, or when I'm certain that I'm safe I'll knife him. I don't need gibbing, dismemberment or anything else in this genre to enjoy the game.

I honestly could care less about gibbing as long as the game is fair, balanced, and fun to play, I don't even care how flashy it is.

Probably something like reach's assassinations, something brutal but not too gory.

boot to the head
Pretty much all games have the bad guy deliver a boot to your head to knock you out so it's perfectly fine for you to return the favor.

Or just the same way

MW2 ends with Shephard walking over and plunging a knife in your chest

You get XP for killing an enemy. Now you want to be rewarded a custom cinematic? The game is not single player so it won't pause all around you for a camera dance. While you're admiring your display someone else can just effortlessly kill you.

A term FPS gamers use meaning to completely kill/obliterate someone. Blowing them up into pieces. Or shooting them to force them into the respawn queue.

you wouldn't buy it if there was a 2 second optional execution system where you are still completely vulnerable and the only reward would be the same as a tea bag?

If it was put in there i would want to keep it simple.

1-2 seconds of your guy puting his gun to the other guys dome....like at the end of the trailer...anything other then that would take to long to play out and, stated above, you would be killed

That is actually a great idea to be able to finish the them off, but no flashy stuff a solid round to the head should suffice.

None of you have played Wolf ET apparently. A simple instagib would unbalance the medic role; they'd have little chance of reviving anyone. No, you have to stand there and spend ammo or do melee attacks. If you don't have the patience then you'd better hope their medic isn't nearby.

personally i hate games that are overly violent. This coming from someone who plays FPS and War Strategy games almost exclusively. I love FPS and all that, but i dont wanna see some guys head explode with buckest of blood if i shoot him. bleh D:

Also for example in Gears of War who loves being cut up by a lancer knowing you can do anything about it while you watch your body be sliced in half by some guy you didn't see coming. No thank you no dramatic finishers and like said before medic would be worthless.

It would be an execution, not an insta, hey screw you, I'm gonna one shot you in a dramatically bloody way and you can't do anything about it. You'd already be dead. I mean you saw in the video how they were shooting the downed people anyways, executions just make them look nicer.

Guys, I'm seeing a pretty strange contradiction here; although all comments seem to lean heavily in favour of an understated execution function or even doing away with it, poll results show that most voters preferred to either interrogate a downed foe (which will cause a painful, prolonged death) or brutally crush the life out of him. Boy, is this world weird!

But anyway, I myself dislike gibbing, but am in favour of an swift, businesslike but stylish execution system in order to increase immersion in the game, but preventing the possibility of becoming a sitting duck (for long) or stepping over the thin boundaries of other's sensibilities. Worse stuff happened in the trailer (what happened to the two operatives near its end was flat-out monstrous), but here's to hoping that we can add at least a bit of flair to Brink's gameplay without severely displacing any gameplay mechanics or food in anyone's stomachs.

By the way, I also think it would be good for Operatives, at least, to have a 'assassination' function that could severely damage an enemy if not kill him outright. However, when taking the issue of adverse effects to the Medic role that commentators wisely brought up, I'm not absolutely confident in its success. Well, what do you think?

The Wolf ET system was well balanced when it came to gibbing.

There is: it's called backstab. It's on Operative only ability and if I remember correctly it's a OHKO.

LOL regardless of how you do it, it needs to be done so those pesky medics dont come and revive them.
