Finished game with FCOM. Starting again. Mod advice

Well, didn't really, really finish, but got to level 25 and am godly as a heavy armor, blade wielding Nord with strong illusion, restoration and alteration skills.

I am thinking of making a more thief-like character character and want to try a different mod set. I was wondering about trying out a play through with TIE and Oblivion XP as my core mods... that should make for a very different experience, right?

What is playing TIE like as opposed to OOO/MMM (FCOM)?

I was thinking of blade, light armor, marksmanship and stealth being my most important skills, with a little utility magic in there.

Can Marksmanship make up for a lack of offensive magic (Illusion for command, conjuration or destruction), or is Marksmanship really a one shot per fight kind of thing?

What thievery mods are worth putting into the mix?

You could try WAC, TIE++, the new large WarCry overhaul that's kicking around this forum right now, or...

Nehrim. :)

I recommend that total overhaul, because it's awesome, pretty, and a rather different experience. Not the same old storylines and stuff all over again. Really well done, overall.

edit: But if you don't try that, at least add a lot of quests you've never tried before. And, maybe, something like Oblivion XP, for a *very* different levelling "feel". Perhaps an alternative texture overhaul, whether you're using one now or not. Open Cities or Better Cities, whichever you haven't used yet (if either is the case). And so on... Oh, and for archery, you could check out Duke Patrick's Combat Archery - it's good, and brutal.

edit2: Oops, missed the fact you will be using Oblivion XP. Heh. :blush:

Waalx Animals and Creatures (though there's a bit more to it than that...), and well, much like FCOM++, but TIE. So, whatever you want! :D

Sorry, I shouldn't assume everyone knows every acronym. Hm. Pretty sure I don't, actually. :)

I recommend ROM (Revised Oblivion Mod). It needs OOO as it is based on that. Has its own leveling, a very interesting way, where only your major skills can get to a 100, specialization skills to 50, everything else to 25. Only skill books can train you further.

Redoes magic and guilds. Redoes combat. Adds fatigue. Drowning. paper getting wet. Look it up, read the manual, may be what you are looking for. I found it very rewarding two times I played it.

Yeah, it's an excellent variant of OOO, and then some. :thumbsup:

Superb vision, great implementation, really tight scripting, almost perfect documentation... I suspect there are a few modders who could learn a thing or two from this guy. :goodjob:


edit: Though it would probably be the least different from OOO/FCOM, naturally. :shrug:

Although most of my games are very stable, a ROM game seems to be the most stable of all and provide better performance to boot. There must be something to this script thing as Underground was quite proud of this.
