Yes- every single person who has played the game has found out that by design, it actually ends. (Or more precisely, those who didn't already know it "found out." Some of us knew it was coming.)

Many of them also noticed the big dialog that pops up warning them to make a save for later since they've reached the "point of no return" and that proceeding forward means they're going to do the final battle and then the game will end.

"We tell the full story of every one of your companions through the end of their lives, and it's weird to do all that and then jump back and say, "Okay! Now you can keep going again." So we end the game, and if you want to do other quests, then you go back to that save game before the end sequence."

Moral of the story? Don't mindlessly click "OK" on popups without reading them. Had you taken that popup seriously you would've made a fresh save to continue playing the character after seeing your ending slides. Game only ends when you, the player, wants it to end.
