Finishers

Why do they bother you guys? Im so glad I can assassinate someone right. And I believe finishers only activate on your last enemy when your in a fight. And they look good.

yes, but not when they force you into 1st person. it completely takes immersion away, just keep it 1st person IMHO.

If they activate on a last enemy it means we will see the same few death animations in every one-on-one fight, for me that is going to get very boring and sounds more like a visual gimmick than a cool feature, to possibly hide the fact that melee combat mechanics are virtually identical to Oblivion's, rag-doll is less immediately spectacular, but better in the long run for replayability imo.

I am guessing that the finishers are going to be similar to exploding heads in FO3. It did not happen everytime, unless you picked the perk. I think finishers will be something that you can initiate moreso than something that happens every fight or one-on-one situation.

i just hope a strong attack is still possible without it automatically turning into a repetitve animation.

I'm going to wait till i play it, we've only seen bits and pieces of how they look for all we know you can toggle first and third person at you own will by pressing a key or the right thumb stick. I don't think its handled like Fallout where its the last enemy of a group i think its more in the lines of "my target has this much health so i'm going to do a power attack" cause if you watch the gameplay where there fighting the second dragon he doesn't do it until he does a power attack. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QNZjKbS4CNU&feature=iv&annotation_id=annotation_890527

i'm guessing finishers only activate when the last strike is a critical hit so as to not overdo it for the player.

If it was only on critical hits then that would be a lot better for replayability in my opinion, but i get the feeling they are going to be a lot more common than that, don't know why.

Exactly, I'm not bothered at all by having finishers, I love it. They finally make assassinations believable. BUT, it svckS when they force you into third person for the dragon kills. They should ALL be in first person if I'm playing in first person.

What the other guy was trying to say is he doesn't want to be forced into 3rd person ever! I don't either, i mean it would be entertaining sometimes but certainly not every time. I doubt it will be like that anyway, the folks at bethesda aren't stupid.

Im not bothered by them, I think its a great idea. My only concern would be that they happen too often like others stated, even so, I think its an awesome addition to the game :)

I hate being pulled out of first person and into third person. If I want to switch to third person, I'LL switch - the game had damned well better leave it where I want it.

I hate slow motion and cinematics and all that garbage. This isn't a movie - it's a roleplaying game. If I want to watch a movie, I'll watch a movie.

They can turn cheesy very easily. Finishing moves are to combat as a body kit is to a sports car. If they're subtle, clean and well-done, they're okay, but if they're over the top, they're just ugly and stupid and sad.

My issue with it is that it is last enemy, and that the moves are not controlled by the player, but are useless animations which the developers put in to make it look good, but don't actually contribute to function.

The last enemy issue for me is that it means that you can only take a video of an epic looking battle against multiple foes if you are only fighting them one at a time.

It's also not particularly original. I have known games that have done mean looking melee combat in the past, and not had to resort to uncontrollable animations in order to do so.

I saw a dual wield finisher in 1st person.

There are different finishing moves for each weapon and each kind of enemy. What you saw was a sword finishing move for a human being. However, we saw two other finishing moves for a wolf (sword) and a dragon (battle-axe) in the demo... of which both forced the player into third person. One was also in slow motion.

I dislike slow motion and it feels kinda lame and more suitable for a blockbuster movie... but I can live with it. What I truly hate though is how finishing moves sometimes force you into third person. Totally breaks my immersion and "feel of combat".

I won't play Skyrim with it unless I can find a way to disable it, either through a gameplay setting or a mod.

Who cares? Finishers take away from the repetition of the leftrightleftright Melee combat and make being an Assassin even MORE Badass.

According to my last poll close to 90% of the people here on the forums care and want it optional. So... yeah, people do care

At first I was very excited for finishers. I thought it would be very cool to see some of those complicated moves in first person. However now, it seems they took the easy way out and just make the more complicated Finishing moves force you into first person. So now we have unoriginal and lame third person finishing moves, I have only seen those a thousand times before.
I just hope there is a toggle.

which would amount to 90% of a very small part of the total fanbase... at least we know that little part cares.

Hah, love this response.. Get over it already, bunch of neckbeards freaking out over every little thing in this game.
The guy who wrote this made me rage slightly. 'If I want to switch to third person, I'LL switch - the game had damned well better leave it where I want it.' Getting annoyed over a feature is fine but demanding for it to be suited to your needs when you have no saying what-so-ever? Get outta here.

I REALLY hope its not forced. I hate being forced out of first person. It's so disorienting and frankly looks [censored]. It's like when you got paralyzed or knocked over, it forced you out of first person to watch their stupid ragdoll animation of you getting rocked. Every time it happened I lost focus, and was reminded that it was a game, regardless of how deep in I was.

Haha If you have to be "reminded" it is a game you have DEEP psychological problems. First person does not look that realistic even. Its just functional. Stop demanding petty little things that make no difference.

You know what breaks immersion for me and reminds me Im playing a game. When my butt itches and I have to pause and scratch. Or when Im playing 14 hours straight and sleep starts distorting the experience. Sleep breaks immersion! I hope it is removed (or better yet, hope I can turn sleep on or off!)

So far we've seen 5 finishes in the demos: The dual wield one on the NPC with the Shield. The one where the retreating thief was stabbed in the back. An undead mob taking a axe to the head. The dog and the dragon.

From those we can assume that finishing non-humanoid creatures forces you into third person. I guess that is kinda lame, but all in all I think finishers are a fantastic addition. So much cooler than having everything awkwardly rag-doll after a seemingly weak final gash to the shoulder.
