Finishing moves and its features - can't be turned off

Post » Tue Sep 20, 2011 1:34 am

I actually wouldn't mind going into 3rd person for finishing moves, as long as it returned me to first person at the end.

What I would absolutely hate is Slo-mo... I've used VATS in FO3 so much that I get sick to my stomach every time a game goes into slo-mo... seriously it's cheesy, annoying, and a waste of time. Sure it's awesome the first 25 times or so, but when you expect to play a game for 100+ hours, it really adds up.

EDIT: oh and I also hope that finishing moves don't occur when your opponent has 1 hp left (or any amount of HP that can be subtracted with a single swing)... it would really seem unnecessary and over the top. Also, like i said before, it would be a waste of time.

Hmm... that's optimistic, I expect it to be more like 25-30%. They better have 5-10 different animations for each creature or else it gets old very fast..

25-30% is too often for me. I kill 15-20 people in a bandit cave, if I see the exact same slo-mo thing 5 times in 20 minutes it's already too intrusive.

I would like it if some of the finishing moves were in first person. Slitting someones throat would be a great finisher to see in first person.

They are, some of the finishing are randomly first person like with vats sometime focusing in your weapon iron sight and others in your character

Until that, I'll say that this really is more of a third person game than a first person game.

Because all combat can be done in first person except certain finishers that pull you out for a couple seconds? Come on.

If you feel that finishers are THAT upsetting, don't buy the game, and for [censored] sake, stop being so over dramatic and that's it'll be the end of game or w/e.

Are the finishing moves random?

If so... it is a deal breaker for me, because slow motion animations that remove player control are annoying as heck, in my opinion.

I want an option for my butterflies to flap at a certain speed.

I want an option to punch obnoxious people over the internet.

I think that's a bummer, but I'll try and cope with it.

Very likely to be modded out either way, I'd expect it to be one of the first mods to come out.

Finishing moves are automatic. You have no control over them whatsoever, sadly.

Do finishers that pull you out of first person return you to first person?

That is what it all seems like to me, Drama.

The game shows you in third person for 3 seconds before putting you back in to first person.

OH MAI GAWD, DA WHOLE GAME IS RUINED!

As long as I can see my assassin slit someone's throat in first person and not have any of these finishing moves be in slow motion than I'm cool with it.

I would think so. If they didn't, I think THAT would be the only annoying part about the 3rd person finishing moves.

I recall being surprised when it happened the first time New Vegas. Than about 10 minutes later I stopped caring and didn't mind them at all. I didn't happen to find it game breaking or lessen the experience for me drastically. Toggle on or toggled off I'd still be indifferent to the whole system. That being said, I'm not sure what would get old first, the same swinging animation, or the same finisher animation.

So if you poke a mudcrab there is a chance you will trigger a 30 second sequence to eliminate it?

I think (hope) that they have to be at a certain health to trigger them, but these finisher moves just Reek of bad decisions anyhow.

Lal, no. But the dragon finishing move was around 10-12 seconds if I remember right.
Talk about intrusive in the game, especially for those who like being in control of their character view.

After a long fight with a massive Dragon, which act as boss battles. 10 more seconds is "intrusive"?

He's insulting everyone that likes them.

Different people have different tastes.

Whether i'm watching a film, or playing a game, i'm not one of these people who gets excited by fancy cinematics, action moves, or big explosions. Maybe when I was 8 I might've liked that kind of thing, but not now.

I'm not trying to insult people who do like finisher moves - i'm just simply stating my opinion. The lack of such cinematics was always something I loved about the Elder Scrolls series; and along with first-person gameplay, it was one of the things that really made the series stand out among the crowd of mainstream action-RPGs. I'm very disappointed that's changed.

Being forced out your cam, not being able to control your character for 10 seconds, and for those who dislike this, it's HELLA intrusive.
You can disagree all you want, but that's what a lot of people think that dislike this.

After 300+ hours I would have found not having finishers boring and mundane. Spices up the combat. I think I wouldn't have minded just pure hacking at the enemy if I was like 8, but my tastes have evolved

@hlvr I can understand where you're coming from, don't get me wrong. Seems that nearly 70% like it/don't care though.

I'm not a fan of forcing people into anything they don't really like at all, though personally I don't think I'll have an issue with it.

I'm just going to assume Bethesda stays true to what the series are; a 1st person RPG, and that they are thus keeping forced 3d/slowmo finishers to incredibly strong and difficult opponents. As long as they don't go overboard on more common mobs it's fine for me.

That being said, I'd still appreciate any option to turn it off for those that don't enjoy it, especially since people are likely to get bored of them after a few weeks, assuming there's not a crazy high amount of finishers.

I just hate that your forced into 3rd person, that's all.

Luckily I'm a PC user but I wouldn't be so happy if I were a console user.
