Finishing moves simply not working at all

Post » Fri Dec 16, 2011 2:05 pm

The last time I saw a finishing move performed by my character was in the cave leaving Helgen. It was no effort at all to do it either - both people I snuck behind gave me the "throat slash" animation. Since then, I have not seen a single one, though I've seen plenty of enemies use them on me. I am currently dual wielding Elven Swords. Here are the different things I thought might be the issue and things I've tried to get them working:

First off, I did "set killmoverandom to 100"

Soul trap on one of my swords. I thjought the soul trap might have something to do with it, since it affects the deat. I un-equipped the soul trap enchanted sword, still no finisher.

Dual wielding. I thought maybe because I was doing the "both mouse buttons simultaneously" attack, I couldn't get a finisher. I tried both just using power attacks with one button, and even un-equipping one of the swords. Same result.

unequipping and re-equipping all items. Same result.

Nothing I do seems to cause a kill finisher. Has anyone seen this issue or know how to remedy it?

Kill Finishers are when the victim is in a normal standing position, so they can't be in any special animation, like leaning against the wall or anything. They also have to be vastly weaker than you, or you must be undetected so that the sneak damage surpasses the victim's total health. I just use one sword with the other hand free for other items and I get finishing kills all the time, try upping your one handed skill or get the decapitation perk?

There have to be two things to happen:

1. You have to make more damage than the victim has health
2. You MUST strike with your main hand.

Having a second weapon in the off hand doesn't play any role at all. Same for enchantments etc.

1. You have to be as close as possible without bumping into the enemy.
2. You must use a normal swing. No power attacks.
3. The enemy must be a humanoid.
(Unconfirmed) 4. Both you and the enemy must be on even ground, or ground where the slope is not too steep.

Continue in the way of the shadow.

Maybe for the Backstabbing Finish, but I do finishing moves on Tigers and Bears and other fauna all the time with my two handed weapon.

Yes I'd like to add my experiences with that as well. Throat slicing can be done if an enemy is on uneven ground, but it's definitely more difficult to get it to work.

werewolf killing moves are completely busted. Animations freeze for 5-6 seconds before an attack and then starts up again.

1. Roger that. I'm right behind them.

2. The first attacks I did in the helgen caves were all power attacks, and got the animation every time.

3. I know there are finishers on animals and dragons as well.

I've heard many people talk about specific dual wield finishers that use both weapons, and they are doing the "double attack"(both buttons), not simply attacking with the main hand.

I'm doing this with 6x backstab damage, my guy does a regular swing, and the enemy dies in one shot. Just no animation.

I'm following all these suggestions, and it's just not happening :-(
