Finishing moves...

I guess we're getting one per combination of weapon and foe. So a sewer full of rats will be quite repetetive.

In the magazine it says that the finishing moves are based off of both the weapon you're using and the opponent you're facing.

yep

so you do the math :P

I'm ONE THOUSAND PERCENT SURE that rats will be critters now and not enemies, because rats as enemies are LAME.

And I wanted to do the hand-to-hand finishing move for rats... Squeeze them to death!

Many, many, many. I'm going to be spending a significant amount of time in this game in combat. I don't want to get bored of the animations for a very, very long time.

As long as they are not in slow motion and they can be played in first person!

One thing I was just pondering about this,

If there are finishing moves, are we able to knock people out?

I second the first person view thing. I wonder how they will make this work, if at all. I don't like the idea of the slow mo but I'm starting to think that the cam will zoom out of 1st person and we could see the kill in real time in 3rd person. it would svck if you could only see it in third person mode tho. Also, i wonder if the finishing moves for dual wielding weapons would be the same.

I was a bit skeptical when I heard this at first, but now I am looking forward to this. It would make the game seem a little less repetitive.

I'm sure there will be an option to turn off the slo-mo or cancel out the finishers entirely. What excites me is that the modders will probably make their own crazy finishing moves - then it will be like Mortal Kombat...

This thread is full of assumptions about something we have next to no information about. Love message boards.

Terrible and one-sided Poll; no option for "None".

I don't think "finishing moves" have any importance in a RPG, and the constant stream of requests for gore, dismemberment, "combo moves", "finishing moves" and other arcade mechanics is starting to make me worry that Skyrim is going to end up as nothing more than another disposable and forgettable FPS title. Meanwhile, they keep making Speechcraft and other non-combat skills more and more pointless, or remove them. This isn't Mortal Kombat, sorry.

I am sorry, but I have played every single TES game they have made since the beginning, and I dont think of any TES game so far as a failure, so I think we can expect them to do it right, and fallout system rocked, sorry but I thought so, and I played it for well over 500 hrs and never got bored, if anything I always thought they should throw in a (you thought you killed him but as soon as you start to move away you hear a noise and looking back over your shoulder you see them starting to rise up) excuse to stab em again while they down mode ( just to make sure ) And if you want speechcraft to be more important then we will be moving more toward fallout then you would be comfortable with

As many as possible, of course! I just hope they don't throw you into third person a-la VATS.

not necessarily, you could swap up weapons, or maybe you dont get a finishing move all the time, or some creatures wont rate a finishing move ?

We don't even know if finishing moves are automatic... they could be totally player-controlled.

My only concern is that it doesn't go like VATS cut scene type finishing. You know, with the super slow mo and such. That got tedious in FO3 after while.

speak for yourself... i absolutely LOVED the VATS, slow motion, limbs flying everywhere... enjoyed seeing my wrath enacted upon everything in my way in slow-mo!

got even better once i got the "bloody mess" perk... heheh!

although, i do agree... TES should NEVER have that, it'd just feel way too out of place.

although, why complain about VATS in F3? it wasnt something you NEEDED to do, ya know... you could run around and shoot normally.

We can only hope.

Some sort of targetable finishers kinda like a quick (second pause) VATS where you can pull off leg loppers, arm harmers, and brain basheers.. or just go with the standard. Gut groiners.
Also you could unlock these finishers as your skill with the weapon went up,, not perks persay but then again maybe YES perks persay!

Finishing moves sounds promising, probably a little morbid but I can't wait to see how many ways I can make someones head explode. Guess it'd get a little boring if finishers are all over drawn affairs but sounds like if there are a lot of them there will be ways for some quick and clean finishers.

If they've done finishing moves for every time you kill an enemy, it will become very tedious.

Finishing moves should be for special moments, like stealth kills and maybe give the option to do more powerful moves that might result in a finishing move if done as the killing blow.

So just using disarm & knockdown moves in oblivion was'nt tedious was it?
I still like that now as most did...at the time 99 % of us loved oblivion.....with finishers we have more to do in combat...it gives more satisfaction, especially with having different ones for different enemies & weapons. Some people are just never happy.
At least bethesda have the balls to try new things....its how they will improve....everything cant be kept the same forever.
Also people need to realise...you cant please everyone as a developer.
Like i've said with other things before, people would mod them anyway. There was a mod for oblivion & morrowind that allowed finish moves & it was popular...if as a dev you knew people found it fun/popular,would'nt you apply that to future games you make?

Im kinda worried the animation will get stale. If its like Oblivion I only used two swords and a bow after a certain point so I could see this getting very tiresome. Here's to hoping there is actually a POINT to having different types of weapons in your possession.

Personally I love finishers, and hope they incorporate a ton of them. A quick, deadly finisher like a stab through the chest, a decapitation, neck break, throat slit, etc would be very welcome. If they make them player controlled instead of automatic, it would probably make everyone happy since there are a few people who don't want finishers forced on them. And please, give me the option to turn off slow motion moves, if they decide to put it in the game.

I would love tons of finishers, but they are not necessary as I will not be in combat all the time. There will be plenty of other things to distract from repetitious combat.

As long as they're quick and not some cheesy slow-motion limb flying crap and serves as just a small visual bonus for when you're ending someone's life with a power attack.

I just hope that you have control over the finishers, like what kind and when you want to use it. If it turns out to be a Fallout style killcam i'll end up turning it off.
