Finishing moves: they are automatic, and sometimes force you

Post » Mon Jun 13, 2011 9:24 pm

I could've done with choices along the lines of "I hate it with every fiber of my being."

I do not want to be pulled into third person against my will EVER.
I do not want to see slow motion EVER.

In Fallout New Vegas, under Settings, the Killer Cam Mode can be set to "None," "Player View," or "Cinematic." When set to "None," the camera view doesn't change (you remain in 1st person), and there is no slowdown . . . which is how I have it set . . . that would be fine if Skyrim had that same option.

Automatic? No problem.

Slow-Motion? I'm not a fan, but I could live with it (I turned it off in NV).

Forced 3rd Person? Hate, hate, hate this concept. I've always loved TES because I get to play First Person constantly. I like the immersive feel it gives. If I can't toggle this off then I'll turn the whole feature off. If I can't do that then I'll still play the game, but it'll be one of those really annoying things, like Oblivions Level Scaling.

very much dislike the 3rd person part. Breaks immersion completely. I'm OK with the rest tho.

I hope BGS have taken a look at Obsidian's work (concerning options) then when they made this for Skyrim.
I'm hoping for some definite answers on options and such from the fan interview answers...

Anyway, what did "Player View" option do in F:NV?

The problem with finishing moves is they can wear out their welcome rather fast. Are we really going to want to see it for the 435th time in a 100 hr game?

So far, to me, they seem no different from the Kill Cam in F:NV. Automatic actions that serve no other purpose than to look cool.

The thing is, though, I turned the Kill Cam off, because I got annoyed with it. I'm hoping the finishing moves won't be the same. But if they are, I hope I can turn those off, too.

This is how I feel, I don't think i'd get annoyed with finishing moves, but I think the cinematic finishing moves would get old fast.

I like all three of them, even the forced 3e person.
The reason why I like the forced 3e person is because I pretty much never see my character any time else in 3e person, and by so missing good scenes where I can see my character in his armour and with the looks I gave him during character creation. So in short, it gives customisation a meaningful depth.

Also, is the 4e poll necessary? everyone with good thoughts about his fellow man would like it to be optional.

I'm sure that the slow motion and 3rd person will be an optional thing because in the Fallout games you could turn off slow mo and kill cams in the options menu so hopefully that will get rid of that or that put it in an update

you can switch into 3rd person view by pressing a button, so no need to make the finishing-moves into something which sux (forceing into 3rd person view)

the finishing move shouldn't be something which apears by every kill, because the mostly people will disable it by mod or options after 10 hours playing. finsihing moves should come only by 5-10% kills.

dont mind automatic as long as they are short and realistic and not overly flashy and also that you can take damage while they are occuring. i do not want to be invincible while doing a finishing move and most importantly i dont want to EVER see other enemies just standing around waiting for me to finish my finishing move.

forced third person...................hell no. i play first person for a reason

slo mo...............not a fan of it but its less annoying than being taken out of my view.

I understand the reason you like forced third-person combat. It would be nice to see your character more... yeah, but to me it's such big of a deal that pretty much ruins the whole feel and "immersion" of combat, that it's definitely not worth the extra look at my character. I would rather just switch temporarly (and freely) to third-person whenever I wanted to see my new cool armour or something like that.

I added the 4th poll because... Idk... I would like some solution to the problem written out, rathern than just stating the problem.
11% still voted no :(

I absolutely hate the feature. I would like to finish off enemies my way, without being seen to perform actions I have not done myself. I especially detest the fact that it will seemingly shift me into third person so jerkily at times; that will be completely immersion breaking for people who want to roleplay.

Independence of character immersion is being eroded for 'looking cool'. I disapprove mightily, and I guess I'll have to turn to mods early on to remove this aspect of gameplay. (I could stand it if it was in first person with no slow-mo, but the whole third person feature is just too much; it's dissapointing).

I really hope someone at Bethesda Game Studios gets a good look at this topic.

I don't really mind it but I would still have prefered better control over the whole thing. And yes, FORCING the player in 3rd person... seriously, what the [censored]?

I just hope this doesn't turn ou to be like Fable 3's finishers... big selling point of the game, but you only see them like 4 times in the game, if you're lucky

If I see lots of devs being online, maybe I'll post something new to bring it back on the front page.

It would be bad if they BGS releases Skyrim with it unoptional just because people have said "it looks cool", and haven't really read the fans' thoughts about it.

Hopefully Bethesda knows (or will know) about it one way or another. Perhaps the fan interview will have the answers. I think I asked such a question but I can't remember for sure.

Anyway, what did "Player View" option do in F:NV?

It slows down the action, but the perspective (camera) doesn't change . . . you remain is whatever view your are in (1st of 3rd person).

I really hate this slow motion thing that beth has been doing...in fallout 3 (as part of the VATS system) it was pointless and looked really clunky, specially when all the npc's just stood there without being able to do you any damage.

And forcing you into 3rd person really svcks, TES games focus has always been 1st person and im pretty sure that how most people play it.

So, ?why force the player into 3rd person just to watch some "cinematic" kill Beth?...?does it really add anything to the flow of combat?...Im pretty sure Todd's answer will be : "becose its kewl".

Okay... That second option is a resounding "No" from me... I don't mind automatic finishing moves, but if they force you to change the perspective from how you play the game, then I have a problem.

Hm, okay, thanks!
It sounds good, but I would prefer the "None" mode as you :P

I'm not a big fan of slow motion, but I don't hate it as much as forced third-person view.

Of course I'd like them to be optional- so that I can turn them off just like those damnable annoying "killcam" kills in New Vegas.

I'm pretty sure they are optional. If I remember correctly Todd said they only happen when you use a strong attack that would kill the enemy. So I don't think they are automatic. And I think you have control over when they occur.

Slow motion? Really? That sounds disgusting.

From what i heard early on about the combat I was excited, but it's turning more and more gimmicky and ugly by the second. I
