Finn (Goodneighbor NPC) pulled off a vanishing act

Post » Thu Jan 14, 2016 8:39 pm

well I made an account JUST to post this because it's driving me insane, and I can't seem to find anyone else who has had the same problem

it seems Finn, the guy who asks you about "insurance" and gets stabbed the moment you walk into Goodneighbor is COMPLETELY gone. I've read about people having him just stand there and not start his dialogue, and it seems things can be moved forward in the town by just killing him

this is one reason that I'm really mad at myself for not getting the game on PC, because then I could just use the console to kill him

I would just shoot him myself, but he's up and vanished and I don't really think there's anywhere I could go to find him, because he's an npc only found in the entrance area (or so I believe?). Either way, I checked everywhere else in town and he isn't anywhere

I've tried just about everything to get him to appear in town, besides restarting the game because tbh I'm not really too keen on losing everything. Every time I've skipped back in time to just after the dialogue in which Nick offers to follow you to Dr. Amadi's office, and have tried meeting him up there twice (once he didn't appear, another I caught him at the entrance, followed him inside, and then when Finn still wasn't there, tried to talk to him only to have the game say "this individual is busy" and freeze/zoom in on Nick like I was talking to him). I've tried taking Nick with me, and still no Finn. I've tried fighting everything on the path to Goodneighbor in different orders to see if anything triggered his appearance (the first time I found a way to basically get around fighting anyone and thought that may have messed it up), I've tried talking to Hancock/the npc next to him to try to see what theyre doing (they won't move from out of the alley), I don't even know anymore I've tried so much in-game stuff.

So what do I do? Is there a way to kill this missing Finn? I'm completely stumped as to what to do at this point... and how did he even go missing in the first place when I've never even entered the town before this?

Really hoping there's some sort of workaround to all of this because I just want Goodneighbor to act like it should as a town :'^(

That's rough. Haven't heard of that one before. Definitely game-breaking. I recommend panicking. Pour gasoline on everything.

Seriously though (it's late and I'm drunk, sorry), you should travel to sanctuary, sleep for three days, autosave and fast-travel back. Keep reloading the save and see if he doesn't finally show up.

Well, I've tried it all. Reset my Xbox multiple times, reloaded to before I was even sent to Goodneighbor and beelined there, waited for long enough to reset the area, deleted any saves within Goodneighbor and tried it again... he just WILL NOT show up. Ugh, and I was really enjoying the game, too.

TWO SECONDS AFTER I POST THAT AND IT FIXES ITSELF

absolutely no idea what happened, but I just screwed around for a while and Hancock and that other npc are out of the alley, and I get the Goodneighbor introduction dialogue

well that's a relief
