Firearms reload bug

Post » Wed Sep 01, 2010 3:26 pm

I've noticed that there seems to be a rather serious bug with most every firearm that I've come across that is "new" (i.e. weapons that were not directly carried over from Fallout 3).

After reloading, the character seems to freeze up and the player cannot take any action except movement. I've seen this period last 3-4 seconds on occasion, and during it you cannot access your PipBoy, fire the weapon or access iron sights. Obviously this is pretty detrimental when fighting certain things that may or may not be bearing down on you at 40 MPH that may or may not nearly one-shot you and precious seconds like those matter very dearly.

I'm going to try to keep track of a list of weapons confirmed to suffer from this issue. For reference I've tested and cannot find any perk or stat that seems to directly cause the issue (for example it happens with and without Rapid Reload, and will occur with both very low and very high AGI).

Please post in this thread if you are experiencing this issue and list the weapons you have verified to be affected.

Current list:

.357 Revolver
Hunting Shotgun
Grenade Launcher

Already a known issue (One Among a Thousand...)

This issue seems to affect mostly the guns that are loaded one bullet at a time. No current work around at the moment ( That I know of ).

You can thank Chris and his Quality Assurance team at Obsidian...

Yeah, really makes Dinner Bell just aggravating to use. I'll wait until they fix it for my shotgunner. Or a mod fixes it. The latter is probably sooner.

I don't have this problem, but I do have a problem with the Hunting Shotgun. That is, if I only have one round left it will load it into the shotgun and then keep reloading it into the shotgun. Forever. The only way around it is to hit '2' to switch ammo types so it can load up all the way. If I only have 1 round of an alternate ammo type then it will never stop. I have to hit '2' to switch ammo type and whack the VATS key and hope it comes up during the transition.

@OP

After reloading, left click once. This will restore your controls.

The bug also manifests in VATS:
Have 1 round in your revolver, and full AP
Enter VATS, use up all of your APs to shoot something/someone
You should have an action queue like this: Shoot, Reload, Shoot, Shoot, Shoot

Result: you shoot once, reload, and then are stuck in VATS slow-mo mode until you left click
