Firearms in Skyrim

Post » Wed Oct 12, 2011 10:35 pm

Look what happened to Fable, it was the best game then the second had guns which didn't bother me but took our bows away, then came the third......

Yeah but fable was going downhill regardless of guns.

Its sad to think that some people think 200 years is not a lot of time for technological advancement. As they are typing on a "magic box conected to another dimention that allows them so send and recieve any information they want..." Think back 200 years. seriously.. what did we have?

And then look back at points in history where 200 years went by and not a lot of technological advances where made.

I don't think any nation in TES has evolved gunpowder to the point they could produce guns small enough to be held by a man.

But if they do have the technological means, then why not?

It might be hard to balance though... early guns did massive damage but were highly inaccurate, and required a long time to reload, meaning that if someone came charging at you, there was no other option than to draw your secondary weapon or use your bayonet.

So we have a weapon that can fire 1 shot in 1vs1 combat. It will be rather hard to balance properly.

did you see what happened in fable. IMHO a good fantasy game should stay as close to the dark ages as possible when it come to technology

My exact thought. I've hated Fable ever since Fable II. The addition of guns ruined the franchise for me.

It's funny how some people act like TES is so sacrosanct. Like it's the Holy Grail of fantasy RPG. Like it should never include this or remove that or allow this or prevent that but should, in fact, remain the exact same across different iterations.

I've got no problem with having something like a flintlock in an elder scrolls game. It would be a novelty, most likely, and I'd have to collect it (or all the different variants).

Please not in Skyrim.

If TES were to make a pirate theme or something for TES VI in the Summerset Isles, perhaps then.

But in my opinion, and with no disrespect to anyone, my vote is for no guns in Skyrim.

Redguards may have cannons, and 200 years is more than enough time for that to be developed into primitive guns, but the past 200 years the world has been in constant political chaos, breeding ground for a dark age, for now I don't really want to see guns in TES, maybe later, but at the current setting with the Empire falling apart, I just don't see it as an environment fostering technological achievements.

Still no. I'll play Fallout if I want guns. Differences in flavor are good and as the OP hints with his reference to "special missions," quirky Dwemer muskets introduced as flavor items would only lead to crying about TES' inadequate implementation of firearms--or time being spent on them that I'd prefer to see spent elsewhere. That said, if folks want to mod guns into their copies of Skyrim, I'm happy for them to do so.

I keep reading these posts, on the Redguards, having cannons. Where is this ever mentioned, in any of the lore sources? A "Joke Book"...What's that about? Even IF they did, how do we know what the projectiles were?

another of these, or was someone practising necromancy.

anyway
NO and here's why if the bethseda were to add a gun, than the next game someone would be asking for that ak 47 and the answer would be no and the same for the next game.

and that guns just ruin the game.

give me across bow and a bow.

I just don't think it would fit. I mean in Lord of the Rings you didn't see Frodo going to mordor holding a Flintlock rifle and picking off Orcs. Haha if you want to attack from range just use magic or the classic bow and arrow.

A big NO from me. Same as 99.9% of other people. These threads usually ruffle a few feathers.

No thanks. Also, it's hilarious how one-sided this poll is every time. After a hundred or so of the same poll, it's good to see some consistency.

and yet next week there will more than likely be anotherone just like it.

Don't send it anywhere yet...I'm still waiting for someone to enlighten me, on this Redguard cannon myth.

Interesting fact: Firearms are an invention of the Middle Ages (a.k.a. Dark Ages).

Not really true. Europeans got the idea from the Chinese around the 1300's. First reported cannons are around the 1350's with hand cannons coming at the end of the century. By 1400 you start into the Renaissance and the death of the Medieval Era. Guns lead to the death of Medieval fantasy if they coexist, that's why there is a perceived lack of technological progress. It would ruin the vibe.
