Firearms in Skyrim

You can shoot fireballs and lightning from your hands... Why would you need guns? They seem kind of second rate compared to the most basic destruction magic.

Amen! I voted NO.

I actually think that'd be a good idea. it'd be cool for characters who don't use magic. like a pirate. pirates are still middle age-ish so i think it'd fit in perfectly fine.

No, no they are not. "Pirates", as in the type that is stereotypically associated with the word, are from the 17th and 18th centuries...well into the modern era. Pirates of the Middle Ages looked like armored soldiers and used crossbows, bows, and whatever other melee weapon thy preferred.

Nexuslg: Dark Age is part of the Middle Ages, but the Middle Ages are not the Dark Ages

Dark Age (Early Middle Ages): Fall of last Roman Emperor until end of Viking Age (476-1050/66)
High Middle Ages: 1050-1350
Late Middle Ages: 1350-1492(ish)

I freaked when someone mentioned different variations of katanas in skyrim. After hearing this my blood pressure just shot up to levels that haven't been seen since the last "GUNS R GOOD FOR TES" thread.

I like the idea of a TES game with guns in it, but I just don't think that having guns thrown in with the medieval weaponry that is currently popular in the game would make for interesting and exciting gameplay as much as a whole new game designed with guns and explosive weapons as a core feature. Just popping a flintlock into this game would be like handing John Marston from Red Dead Redemption an old fashioned buggy to drive around. Just because it could be fun and sort of makes sense, doesn't mean it would fit in with the gameplay and intentions of the Devs.

Why? They already have bows, which would become pointless if there was guns. I would prefer using a bow to a gun, and I dont want to sit there like a [censored] getting my [censored] handed to me for a minute while I am sitting there trying to reload. Seems unrealistic to me, unless it was one shot kills, which would be stupid in my opinion.

Edit: grammar fail

I really dont get how there's a thread on this appearing every other week. Most people dont seem to find it fitting to the "Swords and sorcery" theme of the Elder Scrolls - and neither does the devs of this game. Besides, any technological advancements done on earth are irrelevant to compare to those in TES, so the fact that "derpaherp there were cannons 200 years ago" doesnt matter anyways.
And finally - use the damn seach function. I generally dont care if people make several threads on a hot topic but this has been discussed to death so many times already.

Seems like you're going for the Fable thing. While I enjoyed Fable, leave guns out of my Elder Scrolls please.

There's no requirement to make a fantasy world "progress". Indeed, the reason why many of us want to go spend time in it is because it hasn't progressed, and we want to enjoy a simpler time of swords and bows. If ever TES advances to a firearm age, I don't know if I'd even play it.

Fable didn't svck because of guns. Stop hating Fable just to hate it. Furthermore, "fantasy" doesn't mean it has to be a medieval world. Star Wars is technically fantasy.

People dont hate Fable 2 onwards just to hate it. Not while there are sooo many legitimate reasons to hate it left and right. Almost every single thing about Fable 2 was a massive step down from the first game. Magic, combat, firearms, plot, characters, theme, all went in the [censored]ter. Just thinking about it puts me in a bad mood :brokencomputer:

To the OP, they dont really fit in the fantasy world. Fire arms as the natural progression of warfare just doesnt work in the lore/universe. I dont think even cannons are in there :/

It doesn't fit the setting. The Dwemer didn't ever invent any such thing, and no one has messed with anything resembling science since their grand disappearance, for fear of sharing their unknown fate. Even the one known Dwemer survivor knows not what fate befell his people.

From a gameplay perspective, they're unnecessary; non-magical characters can opt to use a bow for a ranged weapon, or just charge in.

Heeeell no.

Only reason for there to be guns would be IF the Dwemer somehow returned.

Which may as well be never. I'm happy with that.

I dont think the time has to do with anything when it comes to tes, if skyrim was 1000 years later they would still be fighting with swords, bows, and magic.

No guns Skyrim, maybe in a later game, but not Skyrim. Also, Flintlock tech would still be too advanced for TES.

Not saying they should, IMO they shouldn't, but if Beth did implement firearms, matchlock guns/pistols (no rifling) should be it.

Unreliable, slow, cumbersome and inaccurate as hell.

Even IRL a longbow was better than any man portable firearm all the way into the mid 1800s.
