I voted yes and quite frankly am surprised more people didn't do the same.
Silly polls deserve silly answers.

It may make sense and the extra precautions you mentioned would make it more viable, but the problem is that guns just dont fit in with the game world, and it wouldnt feel like TES at all.

If you look at the lore and history of the land, it just doesn't fit. They have magic to create explosions, so they would never have discovered (or used) gunpowder for anything. Therefore, they would not have needed to create a gun.

I mean...these people don't even have crossbows for god's sake. :P

Ok before you hardcoe fans freak out, I'm not talking about having something like a G36 or AK-47. I think an old kind of Flintlock long barrel rifle and or pistol wouldn't seem so out of place in TES. You would only have one shot so it would be only useful for either hunting or saving your life as a last resort if some powerful enemy was about to kill you.
Plus the reload animation could be realistic were you would have to have it go through all the steps of what it takes to reload a real flintlock weapon. And ammo would be limited, like you could only carry 10 or so bullets at a time.

It could make for some cool bonus missions and dlc as well. Lets say you had to find the materials for the weapon first then you would have to have a blacksmith make it for you and the same steps for getting ammo too. Also like a real flintock it would be useless in the rain or under water, and it could have random misfires at any given time. And they would degrade with each fire loosing a little bit of power and accuracy after each successive shot, until after about 10 shots it would break beyond repair. The only way to get another one would to be to find the materials again and pay to have one made again. I'm sure many of you think this is blasphemy but I would love to use a weapon like this in the TES world.

have a little time to think on what you said :P TES is in a medieval setting so it would be as out of place as a dinosaur in a game set in a modern environment, please riddle me this did they have flint lock weaponry in the 9th - 15th century? no they did not :) Flintlock weapons were introduced in the 17th Century so it would be out of place by about 300 years, this is not a rant and i am not intending to flame you dude even if it seems that way don't take it too seriously please :D

The Crossbow was developed by Dwemer. A lesser grade was later produced by the Imperial Legion. However, there is NO evidence of ANY cannons, by the Redguard.

@ Stevie :

1232: The Chinese who invented gunpowder (black powder) first used it in a weapon - gunpowder filled tubes aka rockets.
1364: First recorded use of a firearm - shooter lit wicks by hand that ingnited gunpowder that was loaded into the gun barrel.

wait rly everyones been saying redguards have cannons and I vaguely remember reading about it once in game but if they don't then that whole technological advancement argument goes out the window pretty much.

*sigh*

Do you not understand humor? It's funny because the devs took it out of the game. Geddit? Nudge, nudge, wink, wink?

^Just No :shakehead:
Star wars is Sci Fi, I mean really how can you say such blasphemy.

Because there isn't much of any actual science behind it. Laser weapons that shoot really slow tracer rounds and magical sorcery called... the Force? Seriously?

I haven't been able to find anything on it. I have been browsing the Imperial Library, off and on all morning. There has been talk of this "Joke Book", what ever that is...

Maybe in other TES game. Skyrim I think does not set the setting good for guns. Especially with no locational damage.
I have no problem seeing guns in fantasy games such as TES. Not sure if they will ever make the right setting though.

I'd love to see a TES style steampunk world. But till then there is Fallout and Skyrim. If I play them enough I'll mix them up when I sleep in my dreams and get guns in Skyrim and dragons in new Vegas. My vote was NO to the use of guns in TES.

Either Bethesda would have to make them an actual tangent of Marksman that's worth using (which is dumb because it adds guns that make an impact on TES gameplay) or they would have to add useless guns as gimmicks, which is a waste of dev time.

No guns.

I'm not really into FPS games. I like them, but not as much as I like a good ol' fashioned romp through a non-gun toting RPG. I prefer my bows and arrows over guns and IMHO I don't really get a good vibe when I think about guns in TES. If they are put in, I won't be upset, but I definitely won't use them. I know we want everyone to have choice, but if we start with guns, where do we draw the line? Kvatch taken out by tactical nuke? I know that's a bit extreme, but if you want guns, maybe TES is not the right choice of game? A lot of games have guns and the fact that TES uses a fantasy setting and weaponry is part of what drew me to Morrowind and part of what is over-hyping me for Skyrim.

Star Wars is NOT fantasy, it's Sci-fi. It is not at all the same. Also, they are not hating fable just to hate it...there are just aspects of the game some people don't like.

Star Wars is a sci-fi fantasy story. It's about warrior monks who use swords and a magical force to fight evil.

Science Fiction and Fantasy are not exclusive from one another. Clearly, they overlap in many ways.

I'm pretty sure bethesda won't go to far in the timeline in the elder scrolls games for there to be guns or any other type of modern weapons.God at least I hope not.

Exactly...I will continue to research this, but until I find something OR someone produces a concrete source, it will be written off as rumor. Even if it was a projectile weapon...What was the igniting agent? What was the fuel? What was the projectile?

You can shoot fireballs and lightning from your hands... Why would you need guns? They seem kind of second rate compared to the most basic destruction magic.

im against the guns, but....so does bows
