The elder scrolls is based around the time comparable to the time the early roman empire existed in the real world. Thats long, LOOOONG before they even had cannons.

For you illiterate people, thats around 100-200AD.

Just so you know, the middle ages were ca 1400AD.

No. In terms of technology, I would like TES to stay in a stage of arrested development. There are plenty of other games that blend fantasy and technology. Try Fable 2 and 3 or Arcanum. Keep that [censored] out of my game!

While I dislike the thought, I wouldnt mind guns similar to the ones in the film Mutant Cronicles. Any excuse for a gunblade...there I said it :P

A Magicka Cannon/Rifle....sounds epic but maybe for a Fallout easter egg not a weapon in TESV......TESVII or VIII maybe.

Dwemer didn't make guns. They made animunculi who were able to fire arrows (Sphere Animunculi). Crossbows are like bows but with triggers, not much different. Firearms that used lead to fire bullets weren't invented till 1800s.

9th century China - Gunpowder
1364 - First recorded firearm

This is however on Earth. The game is on another planet. Thus, the timeline of guns does not apply.

No thanks. Also, it's hilarious how one-sided this poll is every time. After a hundred or so of the same poll, it's good to see some consistency.

Hmm... lets see... would I like a clunky loud rifle that fires only one shot before each reload... or magic... that allows me to use my fingers to vaporize anyone instantly? Yeah that's a tough one.

Look, I won't say guns ruin all fantasy worlds. Fable 2/3 svcked, but guns had nothing to do with that. In a broad sense, it's not at all a bad idea to put guns in a 'medieval fantasy' game.

That said, it simply doesn't make sense in TES.
It doesn't fit that any of the races would have made guns in the 200 years that have passed since Oblivion. None of them were anywhere near that technology, so at most we should have crossbows by now (which I think is a bad idea as well). The only thing that would make sense is if there was a gun hidden deep inside a dwemer ruin somewhere.

But personally, I think even that is a bad idea. From a gameplay perspective, guns are just too much of a departure from the rest of the game. It would feel forced, even a bit gimicky. But hey...We'll be playing our wii's on ipads soon enough...

1. There were crossbows in Morrowind.

2. I hate having to say it over, and over but I will. Redguards+cannons=potential to make guns within 200 years.

It really wouldn't feel right. I mean sure, I guess I could picture firearms being in an Elder Scrolls game, but in the end it would feel so extremely out of place, especially gameplay-wise....

Ok before you hardcoe fans freak out, I'm not talking about having something like a G36 or AK-47. I think an old kind of Flintlock long barrel rifle and or pistol wouldn't seem so out of place in TES. You would only have one shot so it would be only useful for either hunting or saving your life as a last resort if some powerful enemy was about to kill you.
Plus the reload animation could be realistic were you would have to have it go through all the steps of what it takes to reload a real flintlock weapon. And ammo would be limited, like you could only carry 10 or so bullets at a time.

It could make for some cool bonus missions and dlc as well. Lets say you had to find the materials for the weapon first then you would have to have a blacksmith make it for you and the same steps for getting ammo too. Also like a real flintock it would be useless in the rain or under water, and it could have random misfires at any given time. And they would degrade with each fire loosing a little bit of power and accuracy after each successive shot, until after about 10 shots it would break beyond repair. The only way to get another one would to be to find the materials again and pay to have one made again. I'm sure many of you think this is blasphemy but I would love to use a weapon like this in the TES world.

With all the hard work and disadvantages, you might as well just use a bow and arrow.

its a first person game, if you dont want to use it then dont!!!

ok this is not my opinion but im just throwing it back out there at those whiners that pop up in every thread
balance is the key, even in single player games, and lore. if something doesnt fit with balance and lore, it needs to go, or in this case, never be implemented in the first place

Maybe like light someone on fire, and then grab the arm that falls off and throw it? And the AoE hits someone nearby? Would be pretty cool! Although I'm looking forward to trying this game because like EVERY OTHER GAME is based around the idea you have a FIREARM, and push E to interact with objects. It would be a cool option, but I like the feeling that this game might be more of the dark ages. Where axes and social realities rule, instead of a realism where firearms exist unused and guys have to dream of using them. (In the same button format as the shooters game xD)
