Firefly/Serenity, or lack thereof

Post » Sun Aug 22, 2010 8:09 pm

Does nobody find it wierd that for all the similarities between Firefly/Serenity and Fallout there are NO mods related to the former... I`v had a pretty good look, and theres little to do with anything from the TV series and movie. So I geuss what Im asking for is ANYTHING... from Jayne Cobb`s gun, Vera, to Mal`s coat, to a full-on Firefly class spaceship, anything to do with that TV series I love.

Also, a shout out to all the fans out there of the show! Can`t stop the signal!

Shiny, Firefly is pretty much my favourite thing ever.

Though really, I don't see the similarity, beyond both having a fairly prevelent western theme, and both being [censored] fantastic - I'd still love to take vera for a stroll, or explore Serenity for myself <3
(And there's rarely a badass longcoat as badass as Malcolm Reynolds')

Oh no, theyre very similar. Both futuristic yet somehow still retro, both combine conventional and laser/plasma weapons, similar clothing, etc. I just wish more people watched it and then made mods of it... im useless in that area so count me out. I would love to decapitate a mutant with Vera! lol

The sheriff in megaton has a brown coat :) (and generally some western-style gear)

I suppose in that way, they are. Who knows, maybe there was a nuclear war on earth-that-was! :P
I wouldn't mind the soundtrack in areas, either. I'll have to look into that.

that would be cool, thanks. and yeah, the, like, ONE longcoat item in FO3 i dont really like, its too short. iv also been looking for mods for decent longcoats, but to very little avail. yeah - someone incorporate the music AND something else from the show into the game, that would be cool thanks...

Lol, i'd find it more fun to replace feral ghouls with Reavers. Having the ship as a player home would be amazing but unless someone makes the meshes for the interior themselves it's unlikely. The music would be easier, if you can find any that you can legally use that is :)

The reason there's nothing is because people turn up, see there isn't anything, and rather than making something themselves they just complain about it.

Strange, that.

nothing strange about it, just cause im not some nerd with incredible scripting powers, instead im just a guy who enjoys fallout but would like to make a SUGGESTION as to what people could work on, there's no need to take a bite out of me. we're not all as "talented" as you moddelers and scripters, alright?

What similarities? Fallout is a post-nuclear world where man has never really made it into space. Firefly was all about new human societies on colonies out in space, and every one travelled in spaceships. I really see no similarities at all between the two, except maybe in your imagination.

the Super-mutants could be said to be like the Reavers - Both were made by their Governments from humans, both were only accidental by-products of government testing to improve humans (Reavers as part of a toxin to remove violence and super-mutant as part of the H.E.V experiment to create super-soldiers). Both are fear in their world by normal humans and take normal human to make them into more of themselves.

As mentioned in earlier posts, both are technologically advanced western themed (Brave-Star springs to mind for some reason :P). Look for more if you like but i'm convinced myself so i don't need to look further.

Those are pretty thin comparisons. You could even argue that Star Wars is similar. After all the Imperial Storm Troopers are clones created by the empire just like the Super Mutants, who go around creating fear in the people. Fallout 3 has absolutely no space theme, other than the Zeta add on, whereas Firefly was all about a group travelling among the stars. And how is Fallout 3 a western based game? It's all about the 50's, not about the Old West like Firefly strongly borrowed from.

If you strip them down the their base elements, the future-western theme is the main thing they have in common. Firefly, on the lawless outer planets, "A ship will get you work. A gun will help you keep it", and Fallout, on the lawless wastelands of post-apocolyptic america. Basically, if you strip them down far enough they're both futuristic and have a western "lawless" theme, but it's a weak link. Frankly, I don't need much more than that to link two fantastic things :P

plus, i dont know why, but whenever I see the Enclave, im reminded alot of the Alliance...
look, theres alot of reasons why i think theyre similar, but naming them all is difficult. just trust me, they ARE similar....

Montmorency I am 100% with you, I TOTALLY am reminded of Firefly/Serenity when I play fallout. I mean its not super similar when you try to give reasons, but there are similarities, but I was reminded a lot of Firefly/Serenity when I played it. I even tried getting my guy to look like the main captains character in the show, with the brown/red coat and pistols and such.

Enclave=Alliance
Wasteland= Outer planets where Ally has little presence
Supermutants/Ghouls= Reavers
Raiders=Raiders

Also, the main quest where you purify the water reminded me of in the movie where they get to the planet where *SPOILER SPOILER* those colonists were killed by the Alliance by the air purification/modification and actually created the reavers.

I think the biggest thing is its got way futuristic technology, but yet in an old-timey low technology setting sometimes.

hard to explain, that was my 2 cents, but I definitely feel you on the Firefly/Serenity vibe.

It's not like anyone is born with Mutant Superpower: Scripting or angels descend to their birthplace and announce they are destined to be an amazing modeller. Modders are just people who wanted something that wasn't there and learnt how to make it.

I don't see a western theme in Fallout myself. It's very heavily slanted towards the 50's, which isn't necessarily a western oriented period. As far as all the gun play is concerned, it has more in common with the Dirty Thirties than the Old West.

I've daydreamed quite a bit about a Firefly type thing in Fallout. It would be most wicked to...get out there.

I have this foreboding feeling that since Zeta came out, there will be space mods, with ships and spaceports and such. And all sorts of awesomeness. Anyways, since I really have nothing to add that hasn't been said, I'll just concur with Scarper there and call this post quits.

:EDIT: For those that just can't see the west in this:

You have a martial law system. You kill someone, you get killed. You take something, you get killed. You sit in looking distance of someone who's a little mad, you get killed.

Bounty hunters are almost always after your head. The real lawmen are few and far between, and always resort to shooting to fix things.

Megaton has a saloon, for Pete's sake. And the mayor wears a duster, and a cowboy hat.

The whole game feels futuro-western to me, with some look forwards/backwards to the fifties. If there were only mutated horses...
