I already read that, and those numbers are inaccurate. As much as I hate IE, that ^ just doesn't make sense. A few months ago IE was dominating the browser market.

Internet Explorer is more popular, ofcourse. I think because it's the longest living browser right now. But I meant that I have the best experience with chrome.

Nope.

http://gs.statcounter.com/#browser_version-eu-monthly-200912-201012 shows browser market share in Europe per browser version, http://gs.statcounter.com/#browser-eu-monthly-200912-201012 shows browser market share in Europe, all different versions of a browser combined.

Internet explorer < Firefox < Chrome

Is that your opinion or do you have some facts to back that up?

I am using Firefox 4 beta as my primary browser and it works well, it's fast and is very customisable. (I also have Minefield to play with). As for Chrome, I can't get on with it, but that is purely my preference.

Eh? I don't know what you are smoking. It's logically following too:

http://arstechnica.com/open-source/news/2009/03/firefox-3-marketshare-exceeds-internet-explorer-7-in-europe.ars

As those that upgrade from IE6 face the choice of upgrading to IE7 and IE8 or switching to a different browser entirely. Chrome eating away at IE's share also helps. Opera with the release of Opera 11 owns about 1/3 of most Eastern European web browsing.

:bomb_ie: I haven't used IE since i foun NetScape. That no longer exoists but since then i found FireFox. Me and the 4 Beta have had some disagreements, and it uses a bit more memory than i'd like, but still i see no reason to switch :iluvff:

(finally an excuse to use those new smilies :D)

I've tried using it as well, but can't seem to get it to play nice with Windows Blinds. I guess I'll have to wait until they get it all worked out before i can use it again. Currently using FF 3.6.13

I wouldn't touch Internet Explorer with a ten foot pole. Personal preference.

If you are going to argue that way, then Opera beats Chrome for being just as W3 compliant and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sputnik_(JavaScript_conformance_test)

Really, extremely small differences in compliance isn't going to change anything

Well first of all, nobody mentioned Opera in that comparison - only Chrome, Firefox and IE were featured.

Second, it was not my argument that Chrome is a better browser than Firefox, it was just me who found some data upon which that conclusion can be based. I think that Firefox's great AdBlock Plus far outweighs the minor difference in standard compliance.

Third, the difference between 94 and 20 is nowhere near "small".

Fixing the race now are we? :P

The difference I am saying between Chrome's Acid3 and Firefox's is too small to properly call chrome a "technically better" browser. Some minor changes that many users make can easily cause a few points lost in Acid3. I remember for the longest time, when changing what Javascript can and can't do to my browser window, I was docked like 4 points on Acid3, so I'd argue that such a small difference can't be used to make a claim even for "technically better". I'd say at least a "grade level" 10 points is necessary for "technically better" to be claimed.

Third, the difference between 94 and 20 is nowhere near "small".

I didn't say it was. I was, of course, referring to Chrome and Firefox.

Was the point of this topic to say that IE no longer has a stranglehold on the browser market, and that FF has now, or is in the process, of taking over. Or was it to instigate a debate on miniscule differences in some of the browsers - that the majority of users will not notice (or even care about)?

Nobody is fixing anything. The man was comparing Chrome, Firefox and IE and you come in yelling about Opera. I don't see what the problem is - I provided a criterion by which one can see why Chrome is better than Firefox and why both are better than IE and yes, by that same criterion Opera is better than all three of the compared browsers. So what is your point?

Any demographic change raises the question "why?", in this case being why Europeans changed from IE to Firefox and Chrome, which would be they consider Firefox and Chrome better, so I think we'll just discussing why someone would consider Firefox and Chrome better than IE, leading to them switching to those, causing IE's share to fall.

Didn't you ask for hard facts?

Also, I thought that Chrome had an Ad Block anolog, although in my experience it's not as decent.

Nice that more people are using firefox now, but I've never been a huge fan of it and jumped ship to Chromium (not Chrome) when I had the chance.

I like that there is more choice now about what browser to use. Market competition is a good thing!

I like how Mozilla updates firefox a lot. Well, sometimes the constant updates are a little annoying, but they are generally very quick and unobtrusive, and I know that browser is improving. I also like that I can customize what addons I want to use, and that those get updated, too!

I don't think I could ever go back to using IE as my browser. Of course, the MS website wants you to use IE if you need to, say, manually download updates to Windows. And for some other things, Windows throws a little hissy fit if it needs to open troubleshooting articles in FF and not IE.

I tried Chrome, then switched back to Firefox. I'm surprised to see IE up and I thought this change in the running order happened years ago, but I must have been thinking Firefox3 compared to IE8 only..

I wonder how much of a correlation there is between this and the whole "Microsoft must provide browser options during Windows installation" situation.

I use FireFox because I found out for myself I like it better than IE by using it on my fathers computer and at friends. I'm probably not going to try Chrome on my own computer, becasue I'm satisfied with Firefox, but I might change if I get to try it out on other computers and like it.

I do keep IE though, for those sites I just don't want cluttering Firefox.
