Firelance

Post » Fri Apr 01, 2011 3:24 pm

After seaching this forum and the Wiki I still have some questions concering random events such as Firelance. If you really know what you're talking about, I'd like to check my understanding how things occur in the wasteland with yours!

1. if you approach an area that has random events once, can you get a random event if you go back?
2. will all locations that have a random event have an opportunity for any/all random events or will some occur in only specific places? I've only seen firelance in a couple places is why I ask.
3. you go to a place and a random event is occuring, can another event happen as well (like the firelance)? I think this happened to me once but not sure.

Thank you for your help.

1.) Once a random event has happened. No other random event will occur again at the location on that file.

2.) Basically there are two types of locations and events. Like Vaultwiki, I'll call them A&B. About Half of random events are "A" and the other half are "B". "A" events occur at A locations. B events occur at B locations. For example:

Super Duper Market is an "A" location. Only A events can occur there.

Fairfax Ruins is a "B" location. Only B events can occur there.

The Firelance is an "A" event. It can occur at the Super Duper Market. It can not occur at the Fairfax ruins.

Uncle Leo is a "B" event. It can occur at the Fairfax Ruins. It can not occur at the Super Duper Market.

Regulators are an "A" and "B" event. They can occur at the Super Duper Market and the Fairfax Ruins.

3.) To the best of my knowledge that answer is no.

Firelance doesn't repeat, but it stays around so you have time to fetch dogmeat to help you find it if it really isn't obvious (try looking at night if you don't want to call out the dogs)

I have a very interesting firelance event in my game but I've only recovered 2 of the 24 alien ammo packs. I found firelance by stepping on it as it fell down some rocks with the noise catching my attention. I went to Vault 101 to retrieve Dogmeat and he isn't there even though I sent him there 10 levels ago.

So now I'm wondering if Dogmeat can be "retrieved" during the game if he's lost? Also wondering what the heck happened to all the alien ammo as I've done a pretty large search.

thanks for all or your help Yttrium and JJ

if you have the expansions, four of them won't allow dogmeat to be with you. say you are doing the space ship, the game may tell dogmeat to go to vault 101.

End of the story, I found Dogmeat at the junkyard biting respawned raiders (he never went to 101 as told). I took him to the Firelance event and he tracked down all of the alien energy cells (good doggie). I've been playing since the game released and have never seen such a wide dispersion of the alien cells. Oh well, happy ending.

I found this part from llamaRCA who posted a wiki that can help because now I am looking for it. (If it was not for him posting that link I would given up looking for the Firelancer)
It's not true that the random encounters happen more often in certain locations it is true that they only happen in certain random encounter locations. I didn't watch the vid, but I imagine the player had his character start at some distance far enough so that he/she triggered a new event and did it over and over again until the Firelance was triggered. This will work at any location where the Firelance will occur.

Here's the list of all random encounter locations in the game and you can look to see which ones are available for the Firelance.

http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Fallout_3_random_encounters

But I want to ask,
Does my Luck skills has any affect on triggering the Firelancer?

Because I just want to see if I can get it because I accidently found the ammo in a old save but I could not find the lancer laying around and it was near those sat-com towers up northwest.

it doens't happen very often, but i play so much that its happened to be prob 4 or 5 times at least, but thats many many playthroughs, uncle leo is pretty rare and i've seen him prob 5 or 6 times in 30 or more playthroughs.

I actually got it and I even tried what a youtube video showed near that lake. And since I had Dogmeat I got well over 20 Alien powercells. I was told the weapon is not worth it but when I equip it it has 80 damage. Looks like I found my replacement for the alien Captain's side arm.

It's certainly a powerful weapon, but the ammo for it is very limited. That's why I never bother using it. It will get a me pretty good price at Moire's though.

Firelance is a alien weapon that falls out of a alien ship as it is crashing towards Earth. The alien ship is a random event so depends where you go and when is what triggers the alien ship to crash. ( :shocking: NOT the alien crash site that takes you to Mothership Zeta)

And it uses alien Power Cells which are different and more rare. If you have Dog Meat with you when you trigger the alien ship crash then you can order him to find ammo and he even goes in the lake to find ammo for you.
