After reading some information about Morrowind and Oblivion in UESP my worries are gone.
Oblivion has 8 (Not counting Kvatch) main cities. About 30~ "settlements" (Villages, farms and places populated with friendly NPCs) One of those major cities is the big Imperial City, which is split into 10 parts.
Morrowind has 4 main cities. About 23~ "settlements" (Towns, Imperial Forts, not counting camps). One of those major cities is the gigantic Vivec City, which is split into 10 parts like IC.
Skyrim is going to have 5 "massive" cities (Still sounds vague because we don't know if by massive they just wanted to mean major, and not massive in scale.) If they follow the trend, there will be one really huge main city like Vivec City and Imperial City. Probably about 25-35~ "settlements", unknown size but hopefully as big as Morrowind's which was enough and a pretty good size.
Morrowind's 3 main cities not counting Vivec City, was not nearly as big as the ones in Oblivion in scale.
Markarth Side already looks bigger than any of Oblivion's cities (Not counting IC). And it still seems to me that there will be an even larger city akin to Vivec City and IC.
Period.
In terms of landscape scale, it seems to be as big or bigger than Cyrodiil was in Oblivion. At least as big as Capital Wasteland which was already bigger than Vvardenfell.
I'd say Skyrim is going to be the best features of each world together. Cyrodiil's size (about 16~ square miles), Capital Wasteland's detail, Morrowind's quantitity and quality of the "dungeons" we can explore.
Period.
Long story, short: Skyrim will gather the best that each BGS game had in terms of exploration, size and world detail into one awesome world. This, is a pretty realistic thought and very likely to happen. Cities, towns, villages and settlements will have a good size and a decent amount of content to keep us busy. Judging by what we've seen so far, Riverwood which is a small logging community already seems full of all sorts of great things to do! Imagine the big cities and towns.
Not worrying at all, anymore! Go Bethesda!
