My First Complaint

Post » Fri May 13, 2011 6:38 am

I am VERY excited about the new Elderscrolls Skyrim but....!
That voice for the intro movie is terrible.
He sounds like he's at least 80, a bit drunk and his false teeth are loose.
Also some of his slurred words are hard to understand.

exactly he is an old nord, so he should sound drunk and old

I hope this guy's voice won't be used in the game.
I also hope they haven't wasted money on celebrity voices like they did with Oblivion.

My problem with high profile hollywood actors is that it's not needed to make the game any better. If this was movie, then sure you need those people. In a video game, where game play is the priority, it doesn't matter if you pay a hollywood actor or local talent. Further more, Hollywood talent is much more expensive than local talent. It's insane to think you can pay Hollywood talent the same that you pay someone locally. The emporer in Oblivion could have been voice by any number of people, much cheaper than Patrick Stewart, and no one would have noticed or payed attention to it. The same with Terrence Stamp and the same with Sean Bean.

It's my opinion and my opinion only, paying hollywood actors to do voice over work in a video game is expensive and wasteful.

The choice of Max von Sydow as not only the first trailer voice, but according to the GI updates this week will be the voice of a key followers in the game that helps teach you about the dragons - was masterful.

I consider this absolutely perfect casting, Bethesda is landing big name actors and actresses now and I think his voice is perfect! :goodjob:

 at the people worried about Bethesda wasting money and/or a large chunk of the game's budget. You people realize just how wealthy ZeniMax has become, right? They aren't scraping the bottom of a barrel for cash.

Amazing! I never thought this post would get as much attention as it has.

As a matter for the record I am 70 years old and feel uncomfortable recognizing the sound of false teeth in an fantasy role playing game.

I prefer unknown voices that don't remind me of some Hollywood idol.
However this is just MY opinion and no one needs to get so worked up over it. At least it's not an American accent!

Hollywood actors are a waste of money. You can get 3 times as many voice actors and 3 times as much dialouge for the price of paying a hollywood actor to do voice over work. They aren't needed to make the game better.

Well when your a company running on such a large budget that it might as well be limitless, I think you can afford some hollywood actors...

Max von Sydow is a great person, remember I met him at the streets of Paris a couple of years back. He played Knut Hamsun extremelly good many years ago.

I like that BS uses at least one "nord" in their game. Not that there is anything wrong with other ethnically, but as a Scandinavian I find it amusing.

Little movies like Shutter Island and the latest Robin Hood.

I can't imagine voice acting for a videogame pays that well though, even for an "A-list" celebrity.
It's basically just one day recording, but I agree that lot's of people would probably do it for less or even for free.

It probably also has to do with status, Skyrim and the industry in general gets more attention when famous people are involved.
Just look how well that Brutal Legend sold, and everything about that game was horrible.

brutal legend was meant as a joke. a joke you obviously did not get

i thought he sounded great, like one of the last blades should sound....

Yup, old and manly! ^_^ I like it... as long as its unique to that one character and not used for 50% of the population!

I think Max's casting is superb and am really looking forward to his character`s interactions with the pc. He sounds like a grizzled veteran.

Liking/disliking Max Von Sydow's voice is ultimately a matter of personal preference. I, among many others love his voice and am glad to see him in Skyrim.

Although I have a different opinion than Jinix on this subject, I can't help myself noticing how many people jumped at insulting the OP for a damn personal OPINION.
as in OPINION, TASTE, SUBJECTIVITY, can you read me?
Jinix has been made idiot, brainless, immature, liar, troll and many others that I don't remember in just a few pages just because he dislikes a voice for Christ's sake.

On the subject: I didn't understand all the words in the first play either, I had no idea who the man was, then I understood what he's saying and now I know who the man is. I think his voice is excellent for the kind of role he was given. I think the accent is a plus, now that I know how culture-based Skyrim is going to be.

Honestly, when I clicked on this thread, I thought it was going to be a complaint about the new spell system (Dragon shouts, aka Thu'um, "the voice") in the game.

The voice in the intro trailer sounds amazing. It fits very well for a Nord. Get your ears checked, IMO.

Money won't be an issue for BGS as their in a much different situation then they were in 2006. Skyrim will be fine voice wise, heck who knows Max Von Sydow might not even be the biggest voice actor star in the game. Bethesda might have a card up their sleeve and drop a nuke at E3 or some other event saying certain person is in the game and we all go ape crazy. :celebration:

You mean like . . . Oprah? Britney Spears singing the Lusty Argonian Maid? W as a feckless Blade? What exactly are you imagining as a "certain person" that would constitute a "nuke" that would cause us all to go ape crazy?

So um... What makes you think the character he is voicing isn't about 80, a bit drunk, with loose false teeth? We hardly know anything about the actual character yet other than his name and that he is one of the last of the blades.

Really? I though it was excellent, that was Max Von Sydow by the way. He is voicing Esbern, a old Blade, and your mentor, so you will be seeing (or hearing:P) alot of him
