My First Complaint

Post » Fri May 13, 2011 12:31 pm

Micheal Dorn has been in MassEffect and New Vegas, why not add him in Skyrim .... as a DRAGON!!!

Only if he doesn't phone it in like I felt he did with Fallout NV! I was excited he was in it, then so disappointed by his character. :( No feeling, no nothing, he was as flat as my LCD TV.

I am VERY excited about the new Elderscrolls Skyrim but....!
That voice for the intro movie is terrible.
He sounds like he's at least 80, a bit drunk and his false teeth are loose.
Also some of his slurred words are hard to understand.

I hope this guy's voice won't be used in the game.
I also hope they haven't wasted money on celebrity voices like they did with Oblivion.

Well you're the only one who isn't impressed.

Max is a good choice I can't complain about having him voice Esbern.

Hm now wait a minute isn't there an Esbern from Oblivion who was a Nord. Now that can't be a coincidence or is it.

I found that voice very impressive.

Like how he said Blood..t

And that sentence with ''Should have acted!'' And ''They're alread.y ere!''

What!

That's the voice of Max von Sydow, who is in fact 80+ years old. I really like his voice.

He's voicing an NPC called Esbern in the game.

Seriously?! His voice is incredible! And is confirmed as in the game, IIRC.

Well the character he plays in the game is an old blade who is passing his knowledge onto you. Ah I like his voice, its different.

I think his deep voice has a lot of presence. He has that wise pedagogue voice, perfect for a mentor. I don′t know if you saw any of his movies (his name is Max von Sydow), but if you didn′t , I sugest you do and perhaps that will make you change your mind

These guys get it, you have no taste OP

First off, I had no idea it was Max Von Snyder (still not impressed).
Secondly, the cost of celebrity voices in Oblivion meant the voice budget was blown and all the other voices are the same person.'s repeated for all the other NPCs.
Variety IS the spice of life.
Every voice should be a different person for a much better immersion in the game.
and by the way MONEY has Everything to do with a game - it's their ONLY reason for making the game in the first place and every penny saved is a penny earned.

I can't help but smell troll thread here :/

By "Oblivion's" voice actor you are showing your lack of knowledge of the series and the fact the voice actors have been around since at least Redguard. True TES fans would be up in arms if we lost all the voices we have loved for so many years.

You think celebrity voices are a waste of money yet you want to have every person voiced different? Do you realize how much dialog are in these types of games? That's simply not possible.

Beth has been doing this for a LONG time and while I am sure they have been lucrative I don't think they had a huge financial success until Morrowind or Oblivion. If their "only" reason was for money they would have given up long long ago. That's not to say the devs don't deserve our money for making a great product.

Yeah is voice was perfect for the job, get yourself a brain to understand the underlying situation of skyrim settings, and this intro.
But i agree with you on wasting money on famous actors, but kids seems to like it a lot, or maybe thats the female part of of tes players... sad.

Easy guys lets not completely slam the OP. I thought originally when I heard the voice the 1st time and I heard it sounded similar to Max Von Sydow I was like who's this guy but The point I'm making is it shouldn't matter how big the name is but the talent behind the voice.

The uncommon things about his voice is what makes him a spectacular choice.

I especially love it when he says, "Till the time after Oblivion opened." The way he says "opened" just sounds so fascinating and awesome.

Yes, he voiced Joker... did a great job IMO.

@ Jinix the Elder
If you played FO3 or New Vegas I'll know they made a huge step in the right direction with number of voice actors, it all felt varied.

They said they hired a large number of voice actors for Skyrim so you're complaints are basically based on your own opinions not facts.

Of course it's based on my opinions - and comparing it to Oblivion not Fallout 3.

But then you would ruin half the funny posts on the forum! Here's the steps half the people take:

1. Half-read info or listen to rumor
2. Speculate
3. Decide speculation is indeed fact
4. Post a thread complaining about said speculation
5. ???
6. Profit

*edit*
To clarify: The OP is not speculating, he is posting an opinion. (an unpopular opinion by the looks of it ;))

I just hope there is money left for the rest of the game now

I'm sorry, but the price isn't worth it.

You can't do math without input.

It's almost to the point where money is a non-issue in some ways.

I'd go as far as to say it's way beyond that. Just by a rough calculation using the fact that FO3 grossed 300mil on day one I think it is safe to say that Bethesda has grossed well over a billion dollars in the past 7 years. They'll manage just fine.

Well first off the guy has an amazing voice.

Second I HIGHLY doubt that he cost nearly as much as Sean Bean or Patrick Stewart when they were coming off really successful movies.

Thirdly it's been confirmed that the voice cast would have much more variety because of the complaints on the subject.

While at the same time I think that it sounds weird and very annoying it also sounds so [censored] sixy!

Go, Max von Sydow!

@ Jinix the Elder
I'm not calling Fo3 Ob with guns but they do have certain things in common and one of the things that was improved was the amount of voice actors used. They realized their mistake and listened to the complaints that a lot of the NPCs in OB sounded the same (and some just sounded annoying) and improved/fixed it in their next game that was similar to OB.

Does it seem logical to go back to the way OB did things given that they did a much better job with voice over diversity in FO3? No, it doesn't, especially since they don't exactly have money problems.

So it all boils down to you not liking a particular voice actor that everyone else does (myself included).

Your first complaint was one of my first elations--I don't know if that's the word I'm looking for. When I first saw that trailer and heard Sydow I was awe struck. They chose the perfect voice for a nordic game. Someone who has presence, bearing, and of coarse is from a region of the world that Skyrim was inspired by. It's the perfect marriage.

The voices were not all done by the same person ( http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0462271/ ). The races were voiced by 10 different actors. The major reason for reusing voices between races was the size of the sound files. Even with DVDs being the standard now and with better compression, they still will not have room for unique voices for every NPC. Your wish is entirely unrealistic.
