My First Complaint

Post » Fri May 13, 2011 8:21 am

I am VERY excited about the new Elderscrolls Skyrim but....!
That voice for the intro movie is terrible.
He sounds like he's at least 80, a bit drunk and his false teeth are loose.
Also some of his slurred words are hard to understand.

I hope this guy's voice won't be used in the game.
I also hope they haven't wasted money on celebrity voices like they did with Oblivion.

And that sentence with ''Should have acted!'' And ''They're alread.y ere!''

What!

That's the voice of Max von Sydow, who is in fact 80+ years old. I really like his voice.

He's voicing an NPC called Esbern in the game.

Seriously?! His voice is incredible! And is confirmed as in the game, IIRC.

Hehe, well, the guy is a celebrity, a famous actor called Max von Sydow. I'm guessing they wanted to go with a Scandinavian actor for Skyrim. I think most people think he's a great choice, and I expect him to play a decent sized role in the game. Don't know if it's confirmed... the last blade chap?

This guy is Max von Sydow, a well known actor which played in lots of Hollywood (and other) movies, And you are right, he is about 80 years old by now.

Nevertheless, he is the narrator of the story in the trailer, which does not mean he will take place in the game as a voice character.

I think his deep voice has a lot of presence. He has that wise pedagogue voice, perfect for a mentor. I don′t know if you saw any of his movies (his name is Max von Sydow), but if you didn′t , I sugest you do and perhaps that will make you change your mind

Hollywood actors are a waste of money. You can get 3 times as many voice actors and 3 times as much dialouge for the price of paying a hollywood actor to do voice over work. They aren't needed to make the game better.

your first complaint is about a voice used on the trailer?

I can think of many games that I didn`t like the voices used but it`s never affected my enjoyment of any game though. Poor old Max :(

Just remembered him in Conan the Barbarian as the old King who is sad that his daughter joined the Snake Cult. Brilliant.

Max von Sydow sounds like a veteran of a 1000 battles, with the gravitas of an ancient lorekeeper. Jauffre sounds like a filing clerk in comparison.

I'm pretty sure he's been confirmed as the voice of Ebern, your mentor. Can't find a link though, will edit if I find one.

His voice is rad.

Max Von Sydow, from The Exorcist amongst many other things.

Dissing the great Max von Sydow, are we?

I think he's great. Probably one of the best celebrity voice actors Bethesda's ever gotten. And they've had Patrick Stewart and Liam Neeson.

I have to go with Mark Lampert's saying that the guy has a voice that could make the phonebook sound good.

Sacrilege.

Also, making a thread complaining about pretty much the only voiceactor we know to be in the game? You're a funny person. Especially seeing as he is in fact very talented, not to mention that his voice is awesome and very fitting for his character.

My question is this, how many more people will buy the game just because of his voice? Compare that to how much it cost to get him to do the voice over work. I'm sorry, but the price isn't worth it.

Take Oblivion, if I want to listen to Patrick Stewart I'll go and watch Strar Trek TNG. He didn't make Oblivion any better, nor did any of the other high priced actors. They wasted money that could have been spent on more local talent that would have led to more unique dialouge and more unique voices.

The same thing will happen with Skyrim.

How do you know how much Maxs voice cost? Maybe he did it for free cuz he is also a TES fan :hubbahubba:

*snip*

I agree in principle, but hiring Max for Skyrim at least seems more sensible than hiring Patrick Stewart, Sean Bean and Terence Stamp for Oblivion.

No one is going to work for free, and that would be the only way it would be profitable for it to be done.
