Yep, Ive finally gotton round to using it. So I decided to start with baby steps. Took a sniper rifle mod I downloaded, changed name, ID etc. and some of the stats. Then added into the Megaton player home. Went into the game, and my weapon wasnt there.

Looks like Im gonna' be a slow walker.

If it was on an existing save then that would explain why. Try on a new save or with a character that hasn't been there before.

I actually had almost the exact same scenario on my first attempt at GECKing. My problem was that I never actually checked the box in FOMM to load my mod.

Unless you set the sniper rifle mod as 'Active' then it wouldn't work. You can only use content from an .esm file in another mod*.

*There's ways around it, I know.

When you load it, click the button that says 'Make this the active file.' So it knows thats the one you are editing.

I would suggest learning off official sources, rather than other mods. Although, learning from other mods is neccessary, it is not always the best idea when you've no experience with a new language, or platform.
Go to http://geck.gamesas.com/index.php/Main_Page, and check out the http://geck.gamesas.com/index.php/gamesas_Tutorial_Layout. From here, you can learn almost everything you need to know. You will also need a http://fose.silverlock.org/Fallout3Commands.html if you plan to do any scripting. If you GECK search of those commands, you will usually get an in depth explaination.

Then, in due time, when you are ready to move on, http://fose.silverlock.org/fose_command_doc.html commands will help you extend your modding abilities even further.

Good luck,

I made numerous mods, done a heck of a lot of scripting, done re-textures, all without tutorials. I also couldn't find jack[censored] in the Wiki. It is useful for looking up functions though.
