first 4 games should be remastered ?

Post » Sat Jun 23, 2012 1:03 am

so imo i think they should remaster the first 4 games ( arena - redguard) and re-releas them fro the pc and 360/ps3. that way people that have never played the first 4 would be able to play them. and for those of you like me who will never be able to play them unless you were to buy a dos.

maybe releas them as an arcade type thing like they do on the 360. i think that would be awesome and i would def pay to get those first 4 cause i really want to play them exspecially daggerfall.

Bethesda lost the source code for the first four games, I believe. They were going to do a PS2 version of Redguard, but that never happened because of poor sales. They would have gladly made at least Windows versions of the older games had they not lost the source codes.

I could see another attempt at the old school dungeon crawler type of RPG if Grimlock does well, though. Maybe a Daggerfall/Ultima Underworld style game with the same brutal difficulty of both could be made?

Arena and Daggerfall are free and play just fine on freeware DOS emulators.

Additionally Bethesda has said that they've lost the source code for Daggerfall, meaning that any remastering for a system other than DOS would have to be a ground-up rebuild of the entire game.

I would give my firstborn for an updated, completely stable Redguard.

Hilariously enough, Redguard or Battlespire were released as Windows games despite being DOS games. I think that was when Windows 3.1 was being assaulted with millions of FMV games.

Edit: Just checked. Redguard wasn't released as a Windows game, but it had a Windows installer for some reason. Battlespire was never released as anything but a DOS game. The installer for Redguard was Windows based.

Windows 3.1 was a GUI over DOS. Lots of DOS software from that period had Windows installers. Windows 95 was a little more of an operating system, but was still actually DOS running "behind the scenes."
