First Impluse, Don't think!

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 2:51 am

First off...Don't reply with the "I'm going to wait for the game to see my opitions" line...this is for first impluse as you want to see your character at this very moment.

O.k. So, honestly I don't think Ill be suprised with the tally. This is a bit of a psychological test for you you see and I'm interested in the results.

Masks were one of the first avenues man took into the aspect of psychological warfare, tatoos as well. It has a tendancy to conjure the image of soulessness, animalistic fears and even demonic posession in the fighter. I believe this trait continues even to this day, even in video games. Behind the notion that we see them as "cool", I firmly believe there is a psychological reason why people want to wear masks or obsucre their face, espeically while wanting to appear intimidating. Hence my little poll.

Hopefully you all voted and I would enjoy your feedback as to why you chose what you did. If you think me a nut job please spare me such comments and just comment on why you chose what you did. If anything, just add the air of maturity to you character. Thank you.

Totally agree it gives the wearer a sense of mystery about him/her

Shades/Goggles, and no tatoos are what I voted. As for the reasons why; I'm just not a big fan of tatoos, and would probably never get one myself, so that would reflect on my in-game character. And the shades.goggles; eyes are a good way to read what a person in thinking/a way to sort of see into their soul imo, and shades/goggles are just enough to cover that up.

I voted mask and tatoo. And its exactly for the reason you said. Wearing masks gives the wearer a feel of mystery and intimidation and that's exactly what I go for in games where I can choose or customize characters. As you can tell from my name and my signature I enjoy having a sense of mystery in my characters. Posterboy said he likes goggles because they hide the eyes as they reveals what a persons thinking, but thays why I prefer half masks. They allow you to see the Anger(pun) or ferocity, or happiness or sadness in a persons eyes without revealing anything else about that character

i'm probably going to create a look that it makes it hard to tell what faction i'm on from a distance.

but until i get to play with the customisation i can't say what mask or tattoos

My first reaction/impulse to this was "What the hell is a tatoo?" until I realized you meant tattoos. (Seriously, not just trolling lol)

As for what I voted, I went with nothing and tattoos. I'm not a huge fan of covering my face in games when I don't have to, and I really like tribal-styled tattoos for some reason.

Shades/goggles and no tattoos. Nothing against masks, I just like seeing at least part of my character's face, if possible. Ironic, considering my avatar. But of course, if they have a mask like that <= you can be sure I'd use it.

I've met games where masks/covering your face is cool, but never have I actually played a game where the masks are intimidating. BRINK has done a great job of this. The Security masks are unique, yet intimidating enough, to sometimes give me chills just looking at them (the Eel especially), and the Resistance masks make the refugees seem more like war veterans.

Suffice to say, I think I'll be using masks often.

My first impulse is that your poll isn't complete. :D

My first character has two answers for the first question, as his Security look will be wearing shades/goggles and the resistance look will have a half mask/bandana over his face.

No tats though, not for #1.

Masks are most definitely a plus, in my book. Not only do they strike fear into the hearts of cowards, they are useful in a variety of other ways as well. For example, a mask can eliminate facial recognition. You could pass as an enemy, since nobody would be able to tell see your face. And we can't forget the protection bonus that steel or fiberglass head gear would give you. (Think Army of Two!)

Tattoos are cool, and for many reasons. They can easily tell someone what to look out for without you having to say anything, whether you want to be left alone, follow a certain religion, or just love to joke around. Again you also have the shock factor: If a beefy guy wearing the Psycho's tattoos were to walk towards you in real life, you would probably do your best to get the hell out of his way.

Depends, most of the time i like masks, full masks that cover my entire head OR multiple parts put together to cover my entire head, such as a half mask, balacava (sp?), goggles, breathing masks, helmets, hoods, etc.

Sometimes i like my entire head coverd except my eyes, so i can strike fear into the hearts of my enemies, right before i strike them down and hear their delisious screams of pain.

And SOMETIMES i like to have most, if not all, my face uncoverd, ussaly when i dont have a mask of some sort i most likely have a hat on, not a baseball cap tho, something like a barret or helmet, or officer type hat thing, anything military like. :toughninja:

I always look so bad ass, your eyes will bleed with pleasure.

Same for me here.

As for shades, goggles, masks ... I'm going to wait for the game to see my opitions.
It really depends on the faces which are available. If there is one I really like, I don't to cover it with a mask. Also probably 60% of all players will use masks; so not using one makes you stand out. :P

I voted on Mask and tattoo.

I would never actually get a tattoo, but in the game I would.

Mask of some kind, and no tattoo.

I'll be wearing a mask for the exact reasons the OP stated and then some. By that, I mean that I just don't like faces.. Something about the face just bothers me.
Personally I don't like people looking at my eyes/face and I really don't look people in theirs unless it's 100% called upon. If I had my way everyone on Earth would be forced to wear masks and articles of clothing that cover every square inch of their skin. But that's just me..

I didn't read any other posts besides OP

My reason to think why most people want Masks to 'mask' them haha, becuase killing is a sinister thing to do and looked down upon, i don't want my victim to see my face becuause its a awful thing to do i don't want people to see my 'real' face as a killer. Only my mask.

anyways, being anonymous and having authority is awesome.

A + A = A

Im bored.
