first impression: whoa!

Just installed skyrim and played for about 3 hours. Only previous games are SWTOR and GW2.

Man alive, this is great. I thought the graphics in SWTOR were near cinematic, but they are cartoonish compared to skyrim. And I really loved the play action in GW2 (you can dodge and roll), but it does not have skyrim's crouching & sneaking.

A real strength of GW2 is that in PvP, all players are scaled to a more or less even level. And if a high level player returns to a lower-level area, he is debuffed to match the environment. Dunno if skyrim has anything similar, but since I'm only level 2, that's not yet an issue.

Probably my favorite bit so far was discovering that I could clear spider webs with my weapon in order to unblock a tunnel. No cheater highlights or targets to give it away. So lifelike, it takes the play to an entirely new experience.

Now if I can only train myself not to respond to attacks by automatically pressing "1" (in GW2, the basic attack skill).

Skyrim is the opposite of GW2 in this respect. Many enemies in Skyrim scale to the player, rather than the player to the world. Personally, I detested that player-debuffing aspect of GW2 and it made me lose interest in the game altogether. But, then, I have no interest in PvP.

If you're like some of us here (myself included) you can expect to be spending a lot of time in Skyrim. I've been playing, off and on, since the day the game was released and I will be playing for many, many more years to come.

If you like Skyrim you might also consider taking a look at Oblivion and Morrowind. Those are excellent games as well. Have fun!

Oh, man. I'll never forget the wonder of exploring Skyrim for the first time. No other game experiences have even come close to matching it.

Ditto. That feeling of rushing home in the middle of the night from the store on 11-11-11 and talking to a friend over vent while we both headed out of Helgen for the first time... I'd give anything to have that moment back.

Skyrim areas are mostly leveled to your levels however its plenty of exceptions so you should be a bit careful, but you can always go another way after reloading :)

A fire spell also work for the spider webs, you noticed the oil on the ground someplace and the strategic oil bottles.

JB Stop that! You know that it will only get me mad if you start talking like that. :stare: :D

OP- My advice is to keep playing as long as you can and enjoy every minute of it. It is an amazing game when it works. So as they say 'run and don't look back.' Because if you do the massive amount of bugs and glitches will fall on you like 1000 ton Skyrim avalanche. And when that hits the look on your face will be priceless!
