First look at Redguards?

Post » Wed Jun 29, 2011 12:47 am

Bigger lower lip, wider nose, dark brown skin. Definitely a Redguard. Remember, there is tons of customization going on. They all won't look the same.

haa, why does that seem rascist.

I have to say, as a huge Redguard fan, I'm really pleased with how that Redguard in the demo looks. They were such an odd array of colors in Oblivion, kind of "pasty" in a more extreme way than the other races. I think they couldn't look more spot-on in Skyrim though, and I'm excited to play as one. :D I'm almost considering changing my first character to be a Redguard instead of a Nord.

Almost.

You know, I quite like how the redguards were sort of red tinged in oblivion (though I agree the colouring was not done very well), apart from the fact that it lives up to their name, it gives them a sort of unique touch that says "This is a fantasy world". Of course, it's not that important, but I kind of liked it.

I thought the coloring of all the races was terrible in Oblivion, it was very unrealistic, SR npc look so much better partly because of a much more realistic color palette.

It's a visual comparison. There's no other way to describe it unless you lie.

I do agree that the way it was done made them lok very weird and pasty, but I still liked the red-tinged skin as an idea, if not an implementation.

I think he's reffering to how you said, in my response to saying that he didn't look African (ignoring the fact that they were refering to different images), that they wouldn't all look the same.

Yeah, I definitely agree. I had no problem with the red tinge, it was just the general pasty color that was odd and a tiny bit off-putting. I don't mind either way though. The red tinge is usually really subtle, if noticeable at all, anyway.

Character creation in general was kinda horrid in Oblivion mainly due it was based on the YGB system not really tones of anything. I would actually prefer a Sims like creation system at least its a lot more "user friendly" and more organized then the one in Oblivion by miles.

Yeah, after a closer look he is definitely a Redguard. They look great :D

And who doesn't want dreads like that on their burly Nord? B)

Dreads are a Nordic thing? Well anyways I didnt see any dreads so far, but vsions has hinted at Redguards having them
One could argue that Redguards are actually more similar to Middle Easterns, especially considering their architecture.

Naw it'd only be racist if he said "Was talking slang, had grills, was bumping to some medieval hip hop, and looks like Reverie."

Hmm I wonder can I make imperials black I couldn't remember if one could in oblivion.

Redguards often seem like the most overlooked and poorly represented race in TES. Looks like they got a much needed improvement

Really? I thought the Bosmer were the most poorly represnted, considering the Lore says they are badass savages who eat their fallen enemies, then appear in game as annoying pansies who have a tendancy to make you lament your decision to even look at them.

That is actually exactly what we are getting. Instead of being able to adjust the size and shape of a feature we will be given a very large number of preset parts which you can then adjust the position of.
