First patch next week

Post » Mon Nov 30, 2015 6:19 am

Looking forward to the patch. FO4 is a HUGE relief after FO NV launch. 4 is playing well for me, with some rough patches, though, like FPS dips, color saturation in some areas, and audio. I've turned on subtitles, too.

I'm really not a fan of the slo-mo VATS. What IS VATS? Is it a reflection of what the shooter is thinking? Is it slowing down the universe?

I know, it is a cinematic gimmick...but it is also a strategic advantage---shoot the left guy's leg, which will give me time to blow off the right guy's head, etc.

But the slo-mo isn't clicking with me logically. It does add a time-limit or sense of urgency to the VATS, where you can target someone's head but then they slo-mo their ass behind a tree...thanks.

Anyway, that's not a patch issue, just my own. I am loving the game. Acting is a bit dull but professional. Visuals so far are terrific, although I am getting the urge now to explore the world outside (I'm at level 19).

The mods for this will be freaking awesome.

If you look at a settler with the build menu open it highlights all the food items they are assigned to, the bed they are assigned to, and any defense positions they are assigned too.

Provided all of the above are within visual range of you, yes. Nearly all of the settlements I have, this isn't the case.

Even worse, if you assign someone to a supply line, they become nearly impossible to track down because they've obviously left the area. If you wanted to reassign them somehow, it doesn't seem possible.

I do agree it should be updated to be easier to find this out, I was just pointing out its already in the game.

But yeah, reassigning provisioners is a pain. You basically have to keep fast traveling between the linked settlements until you see them inside the build area for one, and then tell them to harvest food, or man a guard post, as those are the only things I've found that cancel their caravan line.

I've read through parts of your posts related to your issues and I just wanted to say that I too have some micro stutter issues somewhat similar to yours. I'm on a 980M. Granted it's a mobile version, so performance is less, but the stutters are sort of inconsistent to other areas of the game. Around good neighbor for example, it seems to get all weird especially.

Particle effects (fire/smoke) sometimes seem to also cause stuttering as well.

What is wrong with the 5/5 big leagues? I am at 4 now, don't want to jinx it.

If I recall correctly it reverts your damage back as if you had zero points invested in it. *shrugs* Not used that perk yet, but thats how I have heard the issue described.

No kidding. I switched over to Borderless Windowed mode tonight, and even though I was only getting a tiny amount of micro-stutter before, it removed all of it. The camera movements are smooth as silk now. But, yeah, the biggest surprise was that the load times DRASTICALLY shortened. From 30 seconds or more for outdoor areas like Boston to less than 10. Good grief, Bethesda. :nope: Used to take nearly a minute upon booting up the game in Fullscreen mode to loading a save and playing. Now it takes less than 15 seconds. And all I did was change to running the game in a window. :banghead:

I'm experiencing the opposite. I actually get fewer FPS dips around Boston now that I'm running in Borderless mode. I even used Shadowplay to monitor my FPS in both cases. It's a very small difference (2-3 FPS usually) but it's there.

Anyone tech savvy enough to tell us why changing the windowed mode would make such a huge difference?

The thing is, these are the people running the 900 series cards and super rigs. People like myself running middle of the road rigs with 750's? We simply can't go into those areas as the lag that hits either freezes the screen or just crashes us out of the game totally. Yes, it's optimization, shadows, all the junk, etc. And, there is no way to disable shadows, only draw the distance down to where they are a huge annoyance to your eyes. They either need to bring the optimization AND way to disable shadows as we were able to do in Skyrim and NV or this game will sit on my desk as a cup coaster.

I'm shocked that you guys are having trouble with 980Ti's. I'm playing with a GTX980sc and an i7 5280K (clocked to 4GHz), at Ultra settings (except Motion Blur turned off), and I'm never seeing any dips in frame rate (1080p, fullscreen).

Are you guys using Nvidia Shadowplay all the time? If so, you might want to try turning that off to see if it makes a difference. You can monitor FPS using Steam (you can turn it on through the Steam Overlay settings).

Hard to fix as it will generate clipping. Two ways to do it: one way is to make larger versions of armor, second is to hide the armor.

This is something who will be addressed to some degree in mods.

I saw it but didn't install it. If all's good I'll do that first thing tonight.

I had read somewhere that the biggest change you can make is shadow distance so I set that to Medium and everything else is ultra or maxed out. Frame rate doesn't seem to be a problem at all ... at least I don't see anything.

I did have a major texture problem last night. Near the car plant. I guess with all those outside staircases and towers and what not it was giving the card fits (GTX 960 2MB). Some of the textures where coming up very low quality on the ground and such. Also some major issues while running around the stairs. Girder textures were showing up just floating in mid-air and around the stairs. I could run right through them but it was a total mess.

If you look at the picture on top of the article, what do you see?

That's right, the Sole Survivor carrying a rifle on his back, and having a pistol holster attached to her leg.

It's also interesting how she has a pistol equipped while the rifle remains visible in her body.

No, I don't use Shadowplay all the time. I only turned it on to check when I felt the dip in FPS around those certain areas in Boston. This isn't a massive issue or anything - the FPS usually stays above 50 - but a 980 TI shouldn't be dipping below 60 at all on 1080p. And I feel bad for all the other people playing with midline or lower spec PCs, because if a 980 TI that is averaging 75-80 fps is suddenly knocked down to 45-52 fps average in those areas of Boston, if someone is averaging 30 fps, they are likely seeing dips into the 15 fps range - definitely noticeable, and definitely unplayable.
