Is First Person cruical for the game?

Post » Wed Aug 06, 2014 10:03 pm

So I found myself never really using 1st person because it felt funky and the annoying slash and stab controls are outdated. I have such awesome looking outfits I found my self in 3rd person so I could admire it, but also it allowed me to see all enemies at once and was a tactical advantage. I found that I'd been much happier with the game if it was centered around being a 3rd person game, so is 1st person crucial for Skyrim?

It's better when using a bow I believe.

Obviously. Historically, ES has been a primarily first person series.

1st person was one of the draws for Oblivion for me, made me reminisce a bit about Hexen. In Skyrim I still use 1st person for combat but I'll switch to 3rd for roaming so I enjoy both equally and hope they keep the option to switch for future titles.

For aiming, 1st person is much better, but I'd hardly say it's required.

I always play in 3rd person in all games where it is possible. Also I don't see the point in spending hours creating great looking armour etc so that I can only see the gauntlets. Just my personal preference really.

If you're using long distance attacks like destruction and all other magic, also Archery. Than yes you need First Person.

But if you're using One Handed weapons like swords and axes than the answer to that question is no. 3rd person will serve you just fine.

Crucial for me; I won't buy an Elder Scrolls game that is 3rd person only. I don't use horses, I don't play the werewolf or the vampire lord; I made some attempts and I found them boring being stuck in 3rd person mode.

I use mods to make the entire game 1st person, including wood chopping, horse ridding, crafting etc

I hate 3rd person. I won't buy TES 6 if it is 3rd person only.

I use 3rd person 90% of the time and 1st person... well the other 10%. I find first person helps with archery and picking up a specific item that may lie in a clutter of things. Otherwise I enjoy third person so much more.

For me it's a yes, I switch between first and third person a lot, and I don't see why we shouldn't have it in there. I'm pretty sure that almost every ES player switches between first and third person, and doesn't only use one for their entire playthrough. There's no reason NOT to have it in there, more options are always good and appeal to more players.

I will not play a game that is 1st person only. It wasn't until the release of the GOTY edition of FO3, that someone told me it was both. I watched the first 10 seconds of a review and turned it off, thinking it was a FPS. That's not to say I don't use FPP. I do when, my character uses ranged attacks or needs to get a close up of something.

In the end... my characters are not an extension of myself, nor do I live through them vicariously. They are their own entity and I don't want to see the world through their eyes. I am a 3rd party member that acts like a spiritual advisor and is just along for the ride as they tell me their story.

Depends on the player. I wouldn't be playing it as often as I do if it were third person. For myself, 1st person is crucial for my enjoyment of the game.

Third person seems like cheating to me. My character couldn't see a 360 degree view, especially if wearing a helm. Overhead tactical view is great for games like Dragon Age:Origins where you control a group; not so much for single player, for me.

I hate 1st person in Skyrim. but I love it with the mod, Immersive First Person View.

I don't want to play as floating arms, so without that mod I'd stick to 3rd person. Without crosshairs. B)

While first person is fun, and is great for shooting arrows, I find it not as fun because it limits what the player can do. 1st person is great for shooter games cause the action revolves around the gun and having a good view, were else a game that mostly consist of melee action I have more fun in 3rd person.

First person is a must for me, but then I love archery. Also necessary for picking up/looting things. I'd say I spend most of my actual play time in first person because it seems more natural to me. Sometimes I do like to go into third person when roaming around adventuring. It just wouldn't seem like an ES game without both.

I play a lot in first person, randomly shift to 3rd person for no reason at times.

I only use third person because first gives me motion sickness, otherwise I prefer first person.

No. I've never once used 1st-person in Skyrim.

I never used it in Morrowind, either. Oblivion crammed it down our throats, so I was forced to use it in that game. But even then I played as much as I could in 3rd-person.

Yes! This is exactly how I feel about it, too.

I played Arena and Daggerfall, and liked them okay, but I was overjoyed when I found that Morrowind was 3rd person. Since that game, I've used 3rd person whenever possible (switching to 1st person for ranged attack or for manipulating objects.) In Skyrim, I've found I don't even need to switch for a bowshot, as the over-the-shoulder view is adequate.

They should definitely keep both. It draws in both types of gamers. heck, even my family is about evenly split between first and third person. for me personally, its 3rd 90% of the time.

Nope. I almost exclusively play on third person.
