First Person Helmet Sight Obstruction

I voted no. If it's a Metriod Prime style "present, but not obstructing view" type deal, I would like it.

there comes a point where fun game play must take over for realism, those things you mention yeah they may be fun fro like 1% of the number of people playing it look at the big picture it makes 0 sense fro Beth to do any of that when it will make the game LESS fun for 99% of users
Congratulations you now understand satire.

I wouldn't be opposed to it, but it should be very subtle. Just a feint black edging around the corners where the holes in your helmet don't quite match your eyes, but again, very subtle.

In my Char Creation poll I asked if you had a flaw such as one eye missing, should the game give you a flaw to match your appearance(?), and this thread got me to thinking that if you had an eye patch perhaps you should also have HALF of your vision covered over by that black patch? Imagine playing a game where you can only see half of your screen! That's be nuts. I'm sure I wouldn't like half a screen (given what we pay for out monitors to be 24"-26" !) at all, but someone out there would, hahaha.

And... on the same vein then, it begs the further question that ... if you had a helmet that covers all the way down past your mouth, then perhaps you also need a Darth-Vaderish breathing sounds when running, too?

It would have to obstruct very little vision. Like the diver's helmet you wear in Bioshock 2, which was also toggleable.

Any more than that and I'd say no.

No.
First of all, the sight of the character is not the same as our eyes. It's smaller. We see at almost 180°, it's something like 100 in FP games. So there is already a sight limitation. Limit this even more and you pretty much get annoyed.
Secondly: nobody will wear helmets anymore, and I garantee that the firsts mods will be about removing that.
It's fun for about 5 minutes but after that you get really bothered.

No - I'd find that really, really annoying. I reckon that one will be left for the mods.

This thread. Hypocrisy at its finest.

The majority of the forums cry "IMMERSION" when they clamour from something like no fast travel, but as soon as an idea like this, which makes sense, comes along, it just gets dumped as "I don't want my game THAT realistic".

I, for one, support this idea. If you think about it, the slit wouldn't limit your vision too much because it's so close to your eyes. It wouldn't be like looking at the world through a papercut. I would guesstimate about the top 1/4 and bottom 1/4 of the screen would be blocked, which still leaves you with the middle half to look through, as well as your peripheral. And that would be the worse it gets. Many other helms afford better vision at the cost of lower protection.

Nop. Would be annoying. Way way way too much intrusion. Sometimes too much realism is bad. This is one of those cases. Just because it's realism doesn't mean it's instantly good. It depends on the circumstances. In this circumstance, it would hinder a lot of our view, just because of realism. It would be way too much intrusion.

First and only priority would be to see our body. Our arms first (when running, swimming, jumping, falling), and if Bethesda isn't lazy, then our legs and torso as well.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=juMWKWR_BCo It was done fantastically and I would love something like this to be done for helmets in skyrim. Just obstructing enough that you might want to take a helmet off when you enter a city, but not enough to actually be a disadvantage for you in battle.

Yes, that one was nice done as in show you wear a helmet without restricting vision more than the hud.

Of course, good sir. Believing there's a line, an eventual point where things just become frustrating and silly, is hypocritical. I, for one, am appalled, and will be writing a strongly-worded letter to the BBC.

+1 for Project Nevada being a good way of doing this.

I like helmet sight obstruction, makes wearing a helmet an interesting choice.

Other RPGs have penalties to spellcasting or perception when wearing helmets, that's another way to do it... There should in any case be some kind of advantage to NOT wearing a helmet.

It works fine in games like Penumbra: Black Plague, and Metro 2033, when you use a gasmask, but you dont need it on ALL THE TIME. but i like when stuff sometimes blocks the screen.

It would be cool if the Illusion-magics worked more like this, blocking your vision with a blind-spell, or making you think you are on fire and cant see much through the flames.

No. It works well in an online game like Mortal Online. It also works well in a scifi setting like what you see in the beginning of the Ultramarines movie at the Imperial Fists sequence, but it's meh for a single player game.

Not sure, it depends on how it looks in the end.
So maybe it should at least be toggleable.

I always like this feature, but it should not be forced upon the entire community when it clearly is not wanted. So I'll settle for mods that do this :P

Wow, you really did it, you found a perfect example, not only showing what I was thinking myself, but that it comes from a Mod for Oblivion, hahahaa. Too cool!

It almost makes me feel dizzy looking at the pictures, let alone seeing the game running that way. I also feel a little claustrophobic suddenly, I didn't anticipate that feeling. But it does look interesting, I'd like to try it!

Thanks, man.

Okay, I have to admit, that was pretty cool. Not just the visors, but the whole thing as a whole was really cool.
I'm all for having it as an optional feature, but it's way, way down at the bottom of the list for priorites, this sounds to me like something that's best as a mod honestly, svcks that console players who want the feature miss out, but Bethesda has many more important things to do.
I wouldn't use it, but I would welcome the option regardless.

I don't wanna judge other peoples' opinions, but I think that if all install http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=8991 and played with it an entire game; quite a lot of those people would say no to it.

Sometimes there can be just too much realism. This is one of those cases in my opinion.

There was the nexus posted Oblivion mod as well as another for Morrowind, by Darknut I think. They were shader addons I think. If they were toggleable then what would be the reason for people to complain. I enjoyed playing a warrior with the limited visor but if it did become irritating I'd then disable the .esp. A toggleable option would have been great.

Would certainly like to see this incorporated in Skyrim. Esspecially if a check were performed during rain and you could hear the rain tapping on your helmet as it fell.
