First person or third person? (PCConsole)

Post » Mon Jan 25, 2016 5:06 pm

I switch off without even thinking about it usually. Much of it actually has to do with game mechanics though.

Unless I'm using a scoped weapon, my accuracy is terrific simply because holding the right mouse button down gets a combination of an unobstructed view (usually) of the target with a single dot representing the point of impact. "I can shoot the wings off a gnat at a hundred paces!" but only in third person. the reason I inserted that "usually" is that if I'm in third and some object is close behind me, the view is obstructed by the back of my character's head or the inside of the face... :shakehead:

I use first for gathering up loot and clutter that's laying around because (Perhaps this is true for you as well?) in third person it can be hard to pick up items because the cursor often doesn't bring up activate option for the item, and it also can be hard to see through the character's body and see everything that is in range to grab.

I'm not certain it's immersion, but I often feel in third person I actually have a closer in-story connection with the character and what he/she is doing at a given moment.

First person primarily, third person is just too wonky for proper aiming to me, and especially bad when trying to hit distant targets. I do go into third person on occasion to see my character, but that's about it. That said, in most games I prefer a third person view, but ughh, not in the Fallout games, skyrim though yeah since I was usually Meleeing a lot.

First person for all gameplay. Third is only for checking out my armor / taking screenshots of my character.

First person PC. Always have played first person, always will.

Gave third person an honest go in many games yet it just didn't feel right to have the amount of viewable area surrounding me. Felt like I was cheating to a certain extent and I lost immersion so I switched back to first person. Haven't looked back since.

I play console, and I tend to stick to first person. I will switch to third person once in a while to see outfits and such, though.

I almost always play in first person. I've been trying to play in third person more with my melee character so that I can see some of the cool combat moves but I just really do not care for it at all.

Always third-person. For me, third-person is the best roleplaying point-of-view.

It was just to see if there was a difference. On PC you are closer to the screen and tend to use mouse and keyboards, though some people do use a controller. Aiming is affected by controller vs mouse also. It's a different feel. So I was just curious if screen proximity and type of aiming control might also have an impact on the way people played. Granted, this is not a scientific poll and I assume gaming companies have done some research on this. It was not meant to start a console/PC war, if that's what you infer.

Maybe you should have also included gender played and gender attraction questions. I've always wondered if there was a correlation between playing third person and playing the gender you are attracted to. For example, are straight dudes who play ladies more likely to play third person than straight dudes who play their own gender?

I play female, am male, like females, and always play in first person, unless to check out an outfit.

One dear to me plays females sometimes. It is what he wants to look at. He plays first person as well. He also takes female companions.

For OP: He plays on Xbox 1

FP most of the time, it's much quicker and more repsonsive. Unlike the other games, in F4 I can barely control my character in TP. It's so clunky.
