First Person or Third Person preference?

Post » Fri Dec 11, 2015 8:53 am

Which view do you prefer for games like Fallout and Skyrim where you can customize your characters looks and gear? I personally prefer third person. I have a hard time in first with the screen so limited with the fov angle. It always feel like I am pressed up against a small screen and can't see what's coming or is around me. Just curious what everyone thinks. There is no right and wrong of course, just personal preference.

I like third person, but this game doesn't play all that well using it so I fight in first person, then make myself happy by running around when I chat to people in my preferred third person view.

90% of my time in first person, and then third person to check out armor, looks, conversation etc. I hardly ever use VATS, a few times if i need to.

I used third all the time in games like Oblivion. gunsights lend themselves to first person, so i mostly play in first with the FOV changed rto 100 degrees

Try this; start a new guy. Keep it in in third irregardless of if youre finding it hard. Refuse to lower difficulty. You might die ALOT to begin with, but the aiming gets alot easier with practice.

It feels kinda more rewarding - that your character is completely unique (when its really not bar from the face..) but im not going to lie, i find first person being used alot more.. But if i commit to a view, ill stick by it

Third person for NPC interaction, general wandering so I can see my character, and melee combat. First person for gunfights and loot grabbing.

I play primarily in first-person, but I appreciate the option to switch out to third-person occasionally to see my character. Since your poll allowed it, I voted for options #1 and #3.

I almost always used 3rd person in Skyrim since I played a mêlée character. I would switch to 1st to get more precise targeting to pick up small objects.

Fallout focuses more on guns, and the 3rd person targeting is not always great, so I have to switch to 1st in combat more often than not. I still do all my traveling around and talking in 3rd person.

My dream would be for Fallout combat to play like Mass Effect 3: 3rd person gunplay that actually works.

For wandering through the wastes I prefer 3rd person. Once I have to enter combat or have to interact with someone/something I switch to 1st person.

I am not my characters. I always play roleplaying games in third-person.

Running around and combat 1st person, 3rd person only if I stay still and want to check out new gear.

Overall, I prefer 1st person games compared to 3rd person games.

Of course, in games where you actual issue commands to NPCs in your squad it would have to be 3rd person. Mass Effect is an example. The only 3rd person game I have played recently is Star Trek Online where ground combat is mediocre, but starship space combat is where the game shines.

Third person for me too. If I spend an hour making my character I'd like to see them. The armour in this game is for the most part really cool.

First person for everything but wondering around non hostile places then its 3rd.

It also helps me remember to put on a charisma suit before any potential speech checks

I prefer 3rd person but I find it puts me at a disadvantage in combat, so I tend to switch a lot.

LOL.... I have gone into combat many times wearing civilian clothes that boosts my charisma because I forget to put my armor back on. I go into 3rd person view just to check every now and then. Good thing I am only playing on hard mode.

I play mostly in first person view. Some times I like third person view, but prefer first person. I loved it since the days of Arena when a lot of games at that time was third person view.

Too bad there isn't an option for first person view with a little bit of third person view, but since it's not there, I just chose first person view.

The only time I drop out of 1st person manually is to check the look of armour.
Other than that using VATS and leaving the cinematic conversation on gives me all the 3rd person I need.?

I play in first person but I like to check out armor in third person. Normally I like playing in third person but the running animation in Fallout 4 looks pretty bad (though better than Fallout 3 and NV)

id say i play about 90% of my time in first person but 3rd person definitely has its place. i like using 3rd person when i admire my armor and when i need to properly measure distances when I'm sneaking around. i used first person for everything else but i enjoy having the option i just wish the game was optimized for 3rd person view because you can tell it was meant to be played in first person i wish they would've made it a little bit better in 3rd person maybe similar to gears of war.

First person view for about 95% of the game play. However, 3rd person view comes in handy from time to time.

I put #1 I'll occasionally use 3rd person to get a better perspective on some things or check out my character but can easily go a gaming session without using 3rd person.

I like my first person perspective, always have. I only switch to 3rd person to gauge my apparel & to check out my butt of course. Does my bum look big in this.
