First Person View? maybe not after the trailer

Post » Tue Feb 01, 2011 11:24 pm

Third person view in Oblivion and Fallout 3 were pretty bad so I always played in first person view. I believe first person view is better for immersion, but after the peak into gameplay from the trailer I am seriously considering playing in third person. I guess we will see in good time but I think this might be a huge difference in this game if third person is playable. I love being able to see my character form the aspect of role-playing, and in Oblivion I had to switch to the menu screen to take look of how cool I looked. Lets hope third person is playable for those battles with a good amount of bad guys.

Even if 3rd person is nice, i'm sure i'll still play in first person most of the time. Immersion is why i think this game is so good. When playing in 3rd person it's a completely different feeling.

I'm a mixed kind of person, I always go to 3rd person when walking, I do this in New Vegas to see the awesome wasteland, and seeing as the region looks more plentiful and mountainous, then it will surly be more enjoyable in 3rd person compared to Oblivion.

I suppose I will try to play with no HUD first person the first time. And maybe a hardcoe mode if it is available.

Yeah, pretty much this. First person for combat and picking stuff up.

The trailer somehow made the game look like it was intended to be played in third person. Not only from the camera angles, but also because of the textures and the entire feeling of the game. And I really don't like that thought for an Elder Scrolls game.

I always alternate between the two..
Generally when i'm strolling around i'll be in 3rd person.
But when i'm fighting, or actually involved in quests and whatnot i'll be in first person.
Depends really.
But first person was my view of choice in oblivion.

1st person = a more immersive and life-like experience for me.
The running looked pretty awesome in the trailer.

I disagree. I think they were just showing off their new 3rd person perspective, since it's always been pretty poorly implemented in previous games.

And to show off the equipment of the character at the same time.

A mixture of both.. 1st person for immersive combat and 3rd person to admire my PC and his rippling muscles ;)

I'm glad they've improved the 3rdpp, but I'll probably still play in 1st out of habit.

I'll play 3rd person if it works, but chances are I'll be 1st person as usual.

3rd person in Oblivion and Morrowind was totally useless for anything except swordfights where it was functional.
Your head covered the crosshair in 3rd person, making it totally hopeless for picking up things or worse casting ranged spells. Even looting bodies felt awkward.
If they have moved the crosshair a foot over your head it should work nice,

First-person perspective is a defining characterictic with The Elder Scrolls games, I feel.
It gives great immersion and feels natural. I really wouldn't have it any other way.

Yup, though I will check out 3rd person from time to time, to look at myself and perhaps a bit more in SR so I can see some of the animations in 3rd. But still mostly 1st.

I usually play mostly in 1st person, occasionally switching to 3rd when exploring. However judging by the trailer it looks like I'll be spending more time in 3rd with Skyrim.

Although I'm glad Bethesda is trying to improve the third person view, I still expect to stick to first person for the most part. I like third person games too, but for the Elder Scrolls, I think the first person perspective is an important part of the series identity. After all, there aren't that many good first person RPGs out there, but third person ones are very common. Still, I like to have third person to go into in order to admire my character and equipment, but for normal gameplay, I'm sticking to first person, I think.

Elder Scrolls should be played in 1st person. Maybe go 3rd person to check out your new armor but that's it. I can't stand looking at my character from behind, total immersion breaker.

1st person is the way to go. Though 3rd person can be immersive too, anyone who has played Dead Space should agree. ;)
