First PersonThird Person Poll

First person, always. I just hope we can see our legs, it being "next-gen" and all.

Both though first person is more heavily used.

3rd person is a real kludge in combat, especially with its off centered view.

I'm bi and I'm proud.

3rd to travel/walk, 1st for up-close exploration, sneaking, and combat.

I might try 3rd person this time since they position the character to left corner and the camera angle looks convenient enough.

For a Fallout game? 3rd Person; high vantage.

I voted first person, but i do make use of 3rd from time to time, comes in handy. Getting deja vu about this poll

I only play in 3rd-person. I am not my characters. My characters and I form adventuring parties of two, traveling the game world together on different sides of the screen.

And to think some people call it weird when you play as yourself in video games like this..

Wow, never thought of that! I would like to try isometric top down view, only if the targeting control is good...

Play in first person, admire character/take screenshots in third. The gameplay & animations in third person have always seemed really awkward in Beth games, I just can't play them that way.

As for seeing legs.... eh, the few games that I've seen that done in, it just looked odd as hell. No thanks. (and really, there's nothing "next gen" about it - there were games that did visible first-person legs in the last gen. It's not some super advanced thing, it's just a visual detail that some devs care about and others don't.)

Just as in every Bethesda game, I'll probably travel in 3rd person, and then switch the camera to 1st as soon as combat starts.

I'll have to wait and see what I like to do with dialog depending on how the new system works out.

Arx Fatalis did it really well, and has one of the best PC jump actions that I've seen ~outside of Mirror's Edge.

It saves on the poly budget. In FO3 the arms and body are seperate, and in FPP mode, only the arms are rendered. It's very easy to change this and see the whole body in the game, but this can cause clipping problems with the Pipboy when you access its menus.

Weirder than effectively being a floating head and torso with arms?

In open-world games, were there? Do you have any examples? I'm aware of FP legs in various linear titles last gen.

I agreed with you, I just don't understand why they can't do properly. Is it because of engine restrictions?

** There is also the oddity of standing in the air off the edge of a cliff ~for just rotating the camera view. I know that Arx Fatalis would animate foot shuffling when you did that, but I've seen games where the engine doesn't check.

I tend to walk and run around in third person so I can actually see the character I spent so much time making. I switch to first most combat (melee in third) and up close tasks.

Mirror's Edge also had visible legs, it should be noted.

It can't be massively intensive or costly though, can it? Do we at least cast shadows in FP in Bethesda games now?

I've honestly never seen my character that way in first person games.

This is one thing where I just can't see any difference between a hallway game and an open-world game. It's a few polygons & animations tied to your view location - size & style of world shouldn't have any bearing on it. (remember, people made "see your legs" mods for Oblivion. Not sure about Skyrim.)
