After countless hours playing Oblivion I decided I would buy Morrowind and give it a try. I was wondering if you could recommend me some mods and give me some tips.

Mods I don't know... I beat the entire game with out mods. Tips? Save often!

Other than that its all down to personal taste. After installing them I'd suggest playing the game a little to see if there are any areas you want to improve then checking out some mod lists. A good place to find them is

Personally I'd recommend using Better Bodies, Better Heads (or another face replacer), Better Clothes, and some texture replacers as a minimum just to improve the look of the game.

Better Bodies and Better Clothes for one. Even for its time, the character models looked like emaciated ps1 stick people with jagged skin.

Morrowind Code Patch project is also great, fixing all sorts of irritating bugs and whatnot. Enchant is actually worth it here (since the fail rate is ridiculously high in vanilla), but its far too easy to sell it for oodles of cash (which means nothing once you reach level 12 or so with the equipment you'd have gotten by then...).

If you like vampires, Vampire Embrace by Cortex is a must (as being a vampire in vanilla Morrowind is not just difficult as no one talks to you as a vampire, but hardly even worth the trouble of getting infected as you would HAVE to get cured to continue the main quest). On the other hand, you will be quite powerful (at least, as long as you're not fighting outdoors in broad daylight...) and have lots of followers who will happily wreck stuff for you... Just keep this mod in mind when you feel like harassing the populace of Morrowind:

Oh, I forgot: A lot of mods are on Planet Elderscrolls, which says you have to pay to register. You don't. Same with Fileplanet, which requires a separate login to download the files. It's kind of hard to find, so let us know if you can't find the free registration (the paid puts you first in line for mods, but Morrowind doesn't get long mod lines, despite having a massive selection on the site...).

I too went from OB to MW.

I strongly suggest you play well into the game vanilla before modding. You may as well get a feel for the base game so you can appreciate or not any mods you do.

I found the start of MW exceedingly difficult. I had to try maybe 4 times before I got a PC to survive.

Yes, the best tip is to at least beat the MQ or one of the factions before playing with mods.

As for switching over after playing Oblivion just remember that it's not about the fighting at all and it's a much slower pace.

Aside from the two suggested patches, and perhaps some graphics replacers, I'd have to say "avoid any mods that affect gameplay until you've tried the basic game for a while".

Personally I'd play through the game once unmodded and get the flavor but that's the way I did it the first two times. (Confession: I did use a Rich Creeper.)
You get the flavor. Then select the mods that go with your taste.
I'm big on Companion Mods especially Ashlander Julan and Thief Constance.
For atmosphere, I use Children of Morrowind, Travelling Merchants, and Better Bodies.

There are no "necessary" or "must-have" mods. Two that are suggested a lot are MCP and MPP, but Morrowind Code Patch has a lot of subjective stuff (which you can choose to use or not), and the Morrowind Patch Project is just the Unofficial Patch Project (which fixed problems) plus a bunch of subjective changes. I would suggest playing the game through as much as possible without any mods, and then check various mod lists for things that interest you.

That's a bit too generalized about the MPP haplobartow. Most all the objective fix mods available separately at the time that were not incorporated into the Unofficial Morrowind Patch v1.6.3b were added with MPP plus a few overlooked fixes.

Hm; most of the changes I noticed were not fixing things, just changing them how the author thought it should be. I did not inspect every single change, just enough to be sure.

Well since the MPP is a community effort there are several 'authors' (granted quorn has put in the most effort). Since many in the community were involved with discussions about the changes, that would make those changes what the participating community members agreed they should be.

Better read up more on the changes then. For example: lots of floating objects were corrected; typos and object name inconsistencies fixed; improperly filtered dialog, etc.

I am one of the few people here that does not subscribe to the theory that there is no such thing as a must-have mod.

So, that's why I made the list in my sig.

I think it would be good if you brought these issues up in the MPP thread. I think quorn would be open to suggestions if you can show which changes you think are unnecessary.

As for me, I think that quorn did an excellent and very meticulous job, and I do not find the fixes arbitrary or subjective. They all seem like good stuff to me, which is why I recommend the MPP to anyone.
