First time it was waiting for a crash.

Me: 'Three finger salute' ready for the task manager.

Instant pucker-factor of 10. I thought sure something had gone wrong. My stereo was thundering and the screen showed nothing but fire. Oops!

My reaction
"god dammit! Not another glitch...im returning this game tomorrow..."

And then i returned to Kvatch and was rewarded...I was hooked into Oblivion for the rest of the summer...

I put on a hood and robe then went third person and jumped off the edge into the fire column. I figured, if this thing is lethal, theres not much I can do about it in 7 seconds, so I just made sure it looked cool.

I didn't really do anything. I immediately realized the fire-thing was supposed to happen. And now I feel all smart when I read how everyone else freaked out. ^_^

*Grabs glowy orb*

'K, now to go back to the gate entrance.

*Fireworks begin*

Oh, crap...

*a second later*

Wait, I can't be killed here. That would make for the worst game ever if my guy died closing the gate the main quest told me to close.

*is teleported outside*

*takes sigil stone*
Me: Aw crap.
*Fire starts to spread*
Me: Maybe I can hide in the punished!
*I frantically try to get in it while the fire engulfes the room*
*teleportation*
Me: Oh.

I thought I was supposed to run all the way back to the Oblivion gate (perhaps in a certain time span), but needless to say I got teleported out instead. Oh well. :)

Since this was on the first play-through of the game, my character had died multiple times before getting that far, so what did another one matter. So I just stood there wondering how he'd die this time, and was surprised that this time he didn't.

Again, the Stone from the first gate you close is always relatively weak, usually Descendant, but I got one with a Night-eye or Water-walking effect (the kind that just comes in one strength at any level) that proved useful at times for the rest of the game. These days, I go for that option any time I need to take a Sigil Stone below max.

This was pretty much my reaction as well. My first gate was the Kvatch one. The guard imprisoned in the cage told me that was how to close the gate, afterall. Although a few gates later, I got bored of waiting to get teleported out. So I start mindlessly jumping around only to find if my feet aren't touching to ground/ platform while near the column of lava shooting up, it's instant death. Of course I was grumbling 'cause I had a good sigil stone too.

I remember actually being relieved. Finally, I can get the heck out of here! It was my first Oblivion gate entrance, Kvatch. To this day, I HATE entering Oblivion gates. Awesome sigil stones or not, the Oblivion plane is just too dark, evil, and creepy for me. Sure, fine, I'm a softy a bit, but I'd just rather run around in the woods, not some doomland where I have to pick apart nasty fleshpods to find anything useful. I avoid them unless it's just really necessary or my character feels particularly compelled to be heroic and put aside her inhibitions for the good of the cause.

I just enjoyed the performance, and as my character is a bit slow at times with thinking, he didn't realize any problem with the fire. ;) Having closed his second gate, he is currently looking around for a safe place to deposit all these heavy stones as he is quite uncertain what to do with them .. If the Prior has advice? But this one has other things on his mind.

Oblivion gates are cool! - I was ravished when I first saw Kvatch. I must wait, but I'm afraid on their backside they are a bit too repetitive, always the same type of problem to solve, with the same types of creatures. We'll see ..

I hate entering oblivion gates to, they all look the same inside, same bouring enemies and most of the time youre in there you have to run back and forth between the towers to get to the stupid sigilroom were you finally are revorded for 30 bouring min(or so) of running around in a dark big a.. maze. :obliviongate: Good thing you only have to close 1 of them. =)

I used to hate closing gates, with a passion. Now, I just can't get enough of them.... go figure. I mix it up... on one venture, I go all sneaky and super bow man, the second, no sneaking allowed. For the latter, there's a lot of running and freaking out, as I seem to get constantly paralyzed by the Spider Daedra's Mini- Me. But it's a lot of fun.

I do the exact same thing. I like to always take different weapons and equipment and limit myself to different spells. On one character (where I only had magic skills as majors and maxed them all out and didn't level) it was fun to summon a xivili as a scamp approached me...

At first I was confused about what happened.
Then I noticed I got a item.
Then I spent my time thinking about the item.
Then realized I was already back at Kvatch a minute later.

Basically went like this:

"Aha! So this is where the quest marker was trying to lead me! Right, that black glowing ominous thing looks important, let's deal with it. So do I attack or pick it up or what?"
*Sigil Stone added*
"Huh, that was kinda anti-climaAAH MY GOD RUN!"

Here's what happened:

"Hey that looks important..."
*Picked up sigil stone*
"What the...?!"
*after using a ton of fortify speed scrolls and potions*
"Whew, that was close, now im down here... wait, it keeps doing something WAAAAAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
*End up in kvatch*
:swear:
"Damn this! I hate this!"
*Reload*
*uses the scrolls and potions to get up quick*
"Finally, I managed to make it!"
*Unbeaten dremoras get up when i took the stone*
"Dang, fire damage!"
*I see a mace coming at my head*
And I was :dead:
*Reload*
*Makes it killing the dremoras and not using stuff*
In kvatch: "Dang I forgot the punished!"
*Reload*
"Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!"
This time I didn't forget anything

Although I did not move, I expected having to run for it as the place falls apart. I was disappointed when I found myself on the other side of the gate. But I guess it would have been boring if we had to backtrack all the way to the entrance.

Would have been better if we had to head for a nearby portal to gtfo.

I mean, to close an oblivion gate, all you have to do is head for the tower and take the sigil stone; the oblivion gate will be shut and you will be teleported outside. Sounds too convenient to me. :whistling:

actually I exploited this and got gear that supercharged my speed, I could run through an oblivion gate grab the sigil stone and nothing could touch me. I could close a gate in 10 min. And there is one type of Oblivion gate, that actualy has another gate in it

I grabbed the stone and figured that since everything started shaking and rumbling I needed to get out of the tower so like some of you I made a run for it and then was surprised when nothing bad happened. After that I started grabbing the stone and then jumping off the ledge afterwards, its kinda neat since I don't think you ever hit the bottom before it pulls you out.

I was reminded of one part in Super Metroid where you have to escape a facility or something while it's collapsing/blowing up. So naturally I ran for the door only to be teleported to safety. I felt pretty dumb afterwards.

Also welcome to the forums! :celebration:
